What's the point of items like the Lumberjack Axe?
As the title says... I found a lumberjack axe long after I upgraded my combat axes to copper. I see the Lumberjack axe does 50% additional damage to wood compared to my copper axes, but copper still does more resource damage. Maybe my math/understanding is bad?

Lumberjack Axe Stats: +7 Physical Power +50% damage to wood
Copper Axe Stats: +9 Physical Power +25% damage to wood

When you do the math, the Lumberjack axe does 10.5 damage to wood (7 * .5) + 3.5 = 10.5
Copper axe does 11.25 (9 * .25) + 2.25 = 11.25

So why would I ever use a Lumberjack axe or any of the dedicated resource gathering tools? If anything they should do 100% bonus damage to resources to make them worthwhile, or am I missing something?

Recicle. It gives you silver

Sure, but why even put them in the game in the first place if they're completely worthless except for salvage?

The Game is still in Early access, They might give them a Rarer Drop rate and Boost the use or they might just remove them later, like they did with the General's Soul Reaper.

They give 12(?) silver coins if you salvage them, if you need silver then cutting through low level areas will give you things like Whetstones, Copper and these tools. You'll be needing all of it.

Otherwise it's a neat way to get access to quick copper farming if you're trying to be speedy. RNG is RNG but it works sometimes. They give you 50% more damage to either wood or minerals, depending on which one of the tools you got, a benefit that other weapons/tools don't have. The others just have 25% bonus damage.

Would love to see more of these mechanics, special stats that allow you to farm certain areas quicker.

Also, despite being made of silver, they do not hurt you like silver coins/ore does. The downside is they don't stack.

@Khalysto - You didn't find one until you already had copper. For me, I see if I can find the lumberjack ax and miner's mace before copper. I don't waste a lot of time on it, but if I find them, they are definitely better than bone weapons. Even when I get copper, I may continue using them for a while until I have enough resources for repairs to copper weapons. Then when done with them, recycle for silver coins.

There is no point, its the devs saying "hey use this tool" but I found ANY weapon is capable of material collection, so just your proffered weapons and ignore any you don't want.

LMAO, what a genius we have here.

Have you considered the possibility of finding them long before copper?

Guys, what's the point of Miner's Mace. It says that it deals +50% dmg to minerals. But my sanguine mace still does more resource damage. So why would i ever use it?

You don't gotta be a d*ck, buddy. It's not like copper is difficult to get. I had copper axes in the first 30 minutes of play.

My point was, because copper is so easy to get, and copper axes don't require a recipe, those specialty tools seemed pointless. The easy fix is to lock copper upgrades behind a boss/tech level unlock. That way your resource gathering can still increase (ala these special tools), while you work on unlocking copper tech. I just didn't feel the need to spell that out since that's kinda obvious.

Yes. Nice. That was necessary.

It depends where and how you start. Some people could get these tools earlier than copper tools. If you enter the copper mine, you're not always guaranteed to find ingots, if you're really unlucky you can do 2 runs without a single ingot dropping.

Incase you entered the mines before building a base, a drop like this would allow you to harvest copper despite not having the appropriate tools on hand.

That's for the Miner's Mace anyway. The Lumberjack's Axes allow quicker wood harvesting, that's about it, you don't need it for any specific reason, it's just better than Reinforced Bone.

The 12 silver you get from these weapons is negligible, and largely useless earlier on, but it's a reason to keep these weapons until you unlock the Devourer from Lidia, whereas with reinforced/bone, you would just toss it away so it can despawn.

you missed the point, stop farming low level areas.

You can actually mine copper with the Lumberjack Axe. It'll just be a bit slow.

Nothing beats using bear form with whatever appropriate tool equipped.

I've never seen the lumberjack axe before I fully kitted in copper tier gear. Have you considered not being a troll?

Ah, another genius!

You can buy one at the vendor almost immediately, coins are trivial to gain.
