Otherwise it's a neat way to get access to quick copper farming if you're trying to be speedy. RNG is RNG but it works sometimes. They give you 50% more damage to either wood or minerals, depending on which one of the tools you got, a benefit that other weapons/tools don't have. The others just have 25% bonus damage.
Would love to see more of these mechanics, special stats that allow you to farm certain areas quicker.
Also, despite being made of silver, they do not hurt you like silver coins/ore does. The downside is they don't stack.
Have you considered the possibility of finding them long before copper?
You don't gotta be a d*ck, buddy. It's not like copper is difficult to get. I had copper axes in the first 30 minutes of play.
My point was, because copper is so easy to get, and copper axes don't require a recipe, those specialty tools seemed pointless. The easy fix is to lock copper upgrades behind a boss/tech level unlock. That way your resource gathering can still increase (ala these special tools), while you work on unlocking copper tech. I just didn't feel the need to spell that out since that's kinda obvious.
It depends where and how you start. Some people could get these tools earlier than copper tools. If you enter the copper mine, you're not always guaranteed to find ingots, if you're really unlucky you can do 2 runs without a single ingot dropping.
Incase you entered the mines before building a base, a drop like this would allow you to harvest copper despite not having the appropriate tools on hand.
That's for the Miner's Mace anyway. The Lumberjack's Axes allow quicker wood harvesting, that's about it, you don't need it for any specific reason, it's just better than Reinforced Bone.
The 12 silver you get from these weapons is negligible, and largely useless earlier on, but it's a reason to keep these weapons until you unlock the Devourer from Lidia, whereas with reinforced/bone, you would just toss it away so it can despawn.
You can actually mine copper with the Lumberjack Axe. It'll just be a bit slow.
You can buy one at the vendor almost immediately, coins are trivial to gain.
