Fishing still needs a complete rework or major adjustments.
I did 30 casts fishing in both Farbane and Dunley this was my results:

Ingots – 20
Gems – 10
Potions – 4
Fish Bones – 12
Scourgestone – 3
Whetstone – 6
Hat – 3
Fish – 28

Fish I wanted and got: 2x Sage Fish 8x Rainbow trout.

So, fishing is still terrible.

I know you can go to Mosswick in Dunley and the Docks in Silverlight and loot chests and things and send out servants, but it does not address the fact that fishing is terrible. also, this does not grantee anymore or less fish than going an d fishing but it is more fun.

56% chance to get a fish. Why? I am literally fishing.

I can think of several ways to improve this.

1) Leave everything as is but allow us to fish each spot 3x.
2) Change the percent of fish you catch to 75%-85%
3) This is my favorite idea. Add lures to the game and maybe a fishing skill or additional rods. That increases the % of fish you can catch in each specific region.

Early on fishing may not seem like a big deal but mid/late game if you are in a large clan (mine was 6 people) it can get hard to keep prisoners’ misery low. They give you prison floors SO LATE in the game it’s completely dumb. the Merlot brew helps out a ton but still kind of late in the game.

Also, you need the swamp fish specifically for a high-end brew which is completely ridiculous unless you don’t use them, which I understand if you don’t.

Let me know what you think.

Alternatively, give us a Kitchen crafting station so we can use other resources besides fish to feed prisoners and keep misery low. Part of the reason fishing feels so bad is because it's detached from the game so much. Most materials are incidentally picked up at least some of the time, e.g. while you're in a mine looking for Iron, you're also killing things that drop scrolls, blood, cloth, bones, and more. Fishing requires you to stop, equip a specific tool, click on a splash, and wait.

If creatures dropped meat and humans dropped spices, for example, and you could use a station to cook that stuff into prison food, it'd feel less annoying. Maybe you don't even need a station at all, just throw a "Delicious Concoction" recipe into the Alchemy Bench.

There should probably be a better fishing rod you can get that increases the odds to catch fish, or maybe catches twice as much fish.

Yeah you would think fishing implied getting fish, im just sick of getting all the other junk. Atleast raise the chance of getting fish to as OP said 75-85%

Bonus point if we get to fight a master chef V Blood to unlock the cooking station.

This is why I posted the suggestion of a fish farm building that would work in a similar way to the vermin nest but produce fish instead.

The act of fishing just isn't rewarding and feels like it was put in for some kind of risk reward pvp/gank nonsense without considering that there's not really a reward.

Highly agreed, but i'd take it a step further and say fishing should be removed in it's near entirety. It's a boring mechanic that frequently wastes your time yet remains one of the primary sources of items that play a part in prisoner misery management.

Your Vampire can build an entire castle, im sure they could add a kitchen room + kitchen utilities that has a symbiotic relationship with the gardens you can build.

I'd be okay with fishing remaining a source of cosmetic helmets or something, but I dont think it should remain one of the primary sources of misery reduction items in its current state.

Agree!! The odds of good fish are too looooow dude!

Relatively new player, I asked once how to get fish more efficiently as fishing had bad results and took forever to find new fishing spot. Was told to go to vendors. It's a stupid solution to a stupid problem. Agree with OP.

Agreed, in fact when I first came back for the update I had chosen to build my castle in a spot perfect for fishing because I had hoped they improved it. Sadly, they did not.

Fishing spots, I think would definitely be better if they were not just single use. In fact, maybe they could just add permanent fishing spots. Or they could just remove fishing spots altogether, so you could fish anywhere (while still keeping region specific fish). Or they could add spots in all of the regions specifically for fishing, like piers or lakes.

I agree that the drop table and chances for fishing also needs a revamp, but could potentially be fixed with more available fishing.

I won't lie, I am not to fond of the idea of a "fishing skill" being added but perhaps it would be nice if they could add different qualities of fishing rods, just like weapons. I hate putting your ideas down, but unless the lures are attachable to the rod or have their own equipment slot/bag, I wouldn't want it, I don't want more clutter in my inventory. In fact, it might be nice if they had an equipment slot for your fishing rod and adding a fishing hotkey.

While I am at it though I could see a potential update geared towards fishing, because they seem to reference things from classic horror films, and one potential reference could be from the movie "Creature from the Black Lagoon". Imagine reeling in some type of fish monster.

I think that fishing just needs like... A general rework to make it more interesting ? ;p
I mean, I'm down for taking it out entirely. Make prisoner misery decay over time instead or something like that, which could be faster with relevant floor ?
Fishing doesn't feel fleshed out, I don't fish at all lol, like OP mentioned, I just send servants and I loot relevant spots.
Fishing just has nothing interesting to it, even mining has layers but not fishing. There's no better rods, there's no minigame while fishing, you can't get bonuses from being a worker, the results from it are entirely RNG and you get very little desirable fish, there's no danger to it in most cases, you can't set up a fishing pond in your castle, etc...

Fishing also takes too much time. It's not only very boring to just stand there and wait for the right kind of bubbles to happen, it also limits where and when you can do it much more than most other activities, because the shifting shadows during the day could very well mean you'll have to abandon the cast. I think that also uses up the fishing spot, but I'm not sure.

With all the wolfs, dear and stag you kill surely a kitchen to cook up some basic meat to feed the prisoners wouldn't hurt.
BoiledTeaBag Jun 1, 2023 @ 6:06am
Imagine having fishing in the game, but you don't actually catch fish and the most reliable way to get fish is servant missions who for some reason when they fish, actually get fish.

Our current labour laws are just fine sir.
Our "guests" treatment is all above board.
