I haven't played for a very long time so sorry if this noob asf, but have they changed that you can no longer feed fish to the devourer to make fish oil? It doesn't seem to work for me.

You can now crush them in the blood press. The more rare the fish, the more oil you get.

Oil is easy to come by later on. Better to save the fish.

Fish are completely useless, so no point in saving them.

Some fish are just for pressing now, but a number of fish still retain their uses as prisoner food and potion brewing.

you can also get oil from trees and just from breaking boxes, its really not an issue like it used to be
the next tier of leather up uses a different resource than oil too, so its less necessary overall
Thank you everyone :)

They really aren't, they're the backbone of keeping your prisoners misery down and replenishing their heath to full again.

You don't need to keep their misery down.

Just drain Blood Merlot and then feed them rats for health. There's no reason to micromanage their misery.

Until their misery literally gets so high that they are killed regardless of being at full health, on prison flooring, with the lowest damage roll.

Except that doesn't ever happen.

Except misery can go above 100%, so yes, you can absolutely kill with a single drain at full health, on prison flooring, with the lowest damage roll possible. Admittedly, you'd need pretty high misery to kill with a 25-damage drain, but it's possible.

With regular Blood Drain it's possible, with Blood Merlot it's not.

I'm interested in hearing how you've come to this conclusion.
