Sure seems like getting stabbed / set on fire damage our body, thus causing us to die. It also appears that we need to eat to live, so we digest/ingest things. It also appears that our behaviors/abilities are dependent on our diet. We also bleed when stabbed, probably implying that we have a blood-stream that sustains us.
So poisoning our bloodstream or having venomous attacks to cause that blood to be toxic to our body would probably do damage.
It's another version of "burning" where the two dots can stack. It's vicious if you've got both but that's kinda the premise of some zones; they don't kill you with brute force, they weaken you for a killing blow. I think it's great and creates enemies who are particularly dangerous to encounter in packs.
