cannot have an open-air courtyard with multistory floor

Trying to make a courtyard in the center, and have 2 stories for a balcony, (think the inner courtyard in encanto-ish layout), but when i replace the roof with the invisible flooring, and try to get rid of the staircase leading to it, i get "cannot break path to ground".

I'm not sure what you are doing but I had a 7x7 middle of my castle cut out and had mine go up three floors and was able to look down into my garden. I mean I kept my staircase.. not sure why your want to get rid of your access to the other floors.

oh no i dont wanna get rid of the 2nd floor access, i want 2 floors, but i have tohave a 3rd staircase attached to my roof so that the 2nd story lets in light to the garden on the first floor, thats the bit i dont want haha
