Nicholaus the Fallen might kill this game for me...
This guy is beyond absurd, Full Merciless in every slot and it takes him like 4 hits to kill and he summons 20 adds every few seconds. He clearly isn't balanced for Act 1

Use Goreswine's power to convert the minions to your side. You should have access to your first weapon skill by now, which has pretty good AOE, combining that with Aftershock or some other decent spell should help wipe out the adds pretty fast.

Of course, if you're playing a custom server where the enemy health / damage values are raised, this fight can be hell, you might have to come back after getting the Iron Weapons if it's too much of a problem.

Sounds like you're not using the right spells or approach.

Nick's attacks are incredibly easy to dodge at a distance, so he's downright cheesed with a copper crossbow. The adds you can easily deal with either by using well-timed Barrier Shields, Chaos Shockwave, or even Frost Bat - anything that would deal AoE damage or mitigate incoming damage while your Dash is off cooldown.

He was a huge speed bump for me too. Basically, you really, really have to pay attention and get the F away whenever he starts glowing green, because if you're up in his face when he unleashes his billion projectiles, you're hosed.

There's a difference between his tells for summoning adds and doing his projectile spam, but I'm not smart enough to tell them apart so I just back off whenever he starts a-glowin'.

Took me a few tries but he isn't that bad once you get it. Focus on the skeletons when he summons a ton of them and then you're free to take him out alone. Prioritize the archers because they can ♥♥♥♥ you up while you're distracted by the others. Use any AOEs you have like the hammer Q attack or whatever else you have. Use a lot of leech on the adds. The only thing you really need to watch out for is the skull waves he sends out which do have a lot of space in between each one to avoid them with. The worst part of the fight is the framerate.

You NEED full AOE.. by this point you should have bone explosion and then aftershock.. or whatever it's called and you just turn those skeletons into yours.. learn from your deaths.

i killed him solo using crossbow and chaos spells. you have to be constantly moving to win this fight.

Just kite em and smack him from afar.
Kelloth May 23, 2023 @ 12:18pm
if everything else fails, skip him. Go to farmlands and mine iron. Then come back with iron gear and remind him why he was not a so important boss again.

Bone Explosion+sword whirlwind to manage hes adds while using chaos volley or frost bat from a distance to nail him whenever he stands still to chant....do make sure to drink the 2 potions that give increased melee&spell dmg(from alchemy lab or bought from a shady vendor's camp for a few copper coins)
Consider using high quality rogue(movement speed&dash cooldown) or brute blood(life leech on common attacks+increased regen from vermin salve&blood rose(drink these the split second after using yr travel ability(enemys are distracted by your ilussion and give you time to drink a potion)

His adds are also limited in number; I recommend just walking in a large rectangle pattern to avoid the skeletons; they'll never swing at you and, if they, do, they'll always miss.

I liked doing this fight with my axes, a favorite weapon since forever, as it's easy to stagger a crowd and still have the mobility to get to Nicholaus. When he tries to shoot a skull directly at you, get in his face and parry; he takes a ton of damage and nothing happens to you.

Dashing should be saved for healing and tagging him after he dashes. When he channels his circle-o-sadness just walk away and dodge. If the archers from the advanced summons are giving you trouble, use big AoE spells to damage the horde and give you space to move in against them.

I think you'll find he's not too bad after some practice :)

If Nicky is giving you trouble, you'd better step away from this game now because he's a cake walk compared to some of the later lads.
Peter Panzy May 23, 2023 @ 12:59pm
To be fair, this guy is a 'skill-check' type of boss... up to this point, the bosses are pretty much dodge, dodge, dodge 1v1... This guy really brings the summoner in on ya.

please note, after reading it seems I said get gud. But, what i mean, it is a 'skill-check' to overcome and make you better at the game. Once you get him down, you will be much better for whats to come. Good luck and you'll get this guy down.... then you got the others to look forward to!!

He is balanced, you are just not prepared enough or good enough. If you are having serious problems with THAT boss, you will be bodied by most of the remaining bosses in the game.
