Of course, if you're playing a custom server where the enemy health / damage values are raised, this fight can be hell, you might have to come back after getting the Iron Weapons if it's too much of a problem.
Nick's attacks are incredibly easy to dodge at a distance, so he's downright cheesed with a copper crossbow. The adds you can easily deal with either by using well-timed Barrier Shields, Chaos Shockwave, or even Frost Bat - anything that would deal AoE damage or mitigate incoming damage while your Dash is off cooldown.
There's a difference between his tells for summoning adds and doing his projectile spam, but I'm not smart enough to tell them apart so I just back off whenever he starts a-glowin'.
Consider using high quality rogue(movement speed&dash cooldown) or brute blood(life leech on common attacks+increased regen from vermin salve&blood rose(drink these the split second after using yr travel ability(enemys are distracted by your ilussion and give you time to drink a potion)
I liked doing this fight with my axes, a favorite weapon since forever, as it's easy to stagger a crowd and still have the mobility to get to Nicholaus. When he tries to shoot a skull directly at you, get in his face and parry; he takes a ton of damage and nothing happens to you.
Dashing should be saved for healing and tagging him after he dashes. When he channels his circle-o-sadness just walk away and dodge. If the archers from the advanced summons are giving you trouble, use big AoE spells to damage the horde and give you space to move in against them.
I think you'll find he's not too bad after some practice :)
WAIT till you get to the Upper Level Bosses
please note, after reading it seems I said get gud. But, what i mean, it is a 'skill-check' to overcome and make you better at the game. Once you get him down, you will be much better for whats to come. Good luck and you'll get this guy down.... then you got the others to look forward to!!
