And you're surprised you were punished for doing this?
Bruh.
Of course it's not a bug. Disappearing loot is a mainstay feature in virtually every survival game ever; it's to actually give death some consequence if you fluff about for too long. You can't blame the devs for you making a false assumption of how the deathloot system works.
ETA: If you're genuinely still having difficulties beating Quincy (suggestion: Chaos Dash + Chaos Volley + Spirit Barrier), there are guides floating around on how to tweak your server settings on an existing game (read: difficulty by increasing your personal damage output).
I didn't think 3 in-game days was that much time. Also, it's not a simple thing to run all the way to Quincy's camp, get past all those mobs (damn deadeyes) and get my body back. Trust me, I've been doing this for a couple nights now which is why I wanted to be a bit more prepared first.
Also, I must not play enough survival games. I don't recall dealing with this in Valheim or Ark. I've also been playing V Rising since beta and never had this happen before, which is why I was quite gobsmacked by it.
And yes, I've watched multiple videos and read several game guides on Quincy. I know my biggest issue is positioning and targeting. I can't aim worth a damn, which is why I don't PvP. :P Still wasn't expecting my corpse to decay that rapidly (I did check the forums first too to see if anyone else ran into this, but didn't see a post about it).
Here's a few examples of survival games with death loot timers:
Minecraft: 5 minutes
ARK Survival Evolved: 20 minutes
Grounded: 30 minutes
RUST: 30 minutes
Conan Exiles: 20 minutes (seems to depend on the server)
V Rising has had the death loot timer since day one, I can attest to that personally. It may have decreased since EA launched and wasn't documented, but by a 2022 count it was 45 minutes.
It sucks that you lost your stuff, but what might help next time when you go get your loot the wolf form as a 2 charge leap that give you invulnerability during it that should help avoid the dead eyes and other mobs
Best of luck you you getting revenge on Quincy mate, i remember when i first tried fighting him i died like 8-9 times to him. the Ward of the dammned has personally has helped me in fighting him making skeletons that pull aggro.
Heck, you don't even need an upgraded copper weapon, just get a strong percentage of blood and just run circles around Quincy, use Veil of Chaos when he dashes. Next time you die, just take the wolf form and grab your stuff quickly, a quick in and out. Don't engage in any combat just use Veil of Chaos to get away.
Oof. Good to know then. Also good to know that I don't want to wishlist those other games either (I was considering buying a few of them).
All merciless gear w/ dayrunner ring (for mobility). Was using a merciless sword but upgraded to a merciless spear. Spear worked a LOT better. Spells were Veil of Chaos, Frost Bat, and Chaos Volley (which really didn't matter because I kept forgetting to use them - I'm still not used to the R and C buttons for fighting).
Also used the spear to take down the bear and rat boss while waiting for castle mats.
I ALWAYS use wolf form when travelling a distance, because it's convenient and fast. Got and have been using veil of chaos these last two nights with a gem to modify its duration. Still doesn't make the run to the boss easy, even with rat form for sneaking in, which is why I wanted to build a base closer.
The last time I battled Quincy I had 74% rouge blood. Got him down to the last 25% of his health so I felt I had a chance if I prepared a bit more. And then lost my corpse and all the loots on it. Also broke most of my equipped gear, which only added to the frustration.
Well am lost then. All I had was a common Copper Spear with Veil of Chaos and Aftershock to take on Quincy. I fought him exactly how I fought the Putrid Rat. I did have jewels to empower my Aftershock and Veil of Chaos though. I just kept going in circles and stayed out of his attack and used Aftershock like a ranged weapon. When Quincy got groggy after a failed dash, I just used the special attack with my spear or replenished my health. Nothing special.
Didn't know about the timer. Just used the marker to help me go in the right direction but didn't even think to look for a countdown.
Thanks for the encouragement. I might try getting Ward of the Damned the next time I feel up to playing again. Right now, it can all rot away again IMHO. I may even just delete the character and start fresh whenever next time rolls around. For now, I have Roots of Pacha to calm my roll, and if I feel like survival adventure I'll just patch and fire up Valheim. They're almost finished with their roadmap.
Hopefully this post helps others out who may be experiencing the same frustrations.
Oh, it all boils down to two things. 1. I'm not used to using R and C and having to constantly move while turning and facing the mob, and 2. I SUCK at aiming and turning to face the mob while constantly moving. I'm from the Diablo 3 and FFXIV camp where you lock onto your target and don't have to worry about aiming so much. It's a bit of a harsh learning curve for me. :P
Oh I get it. The camera was a problem for me too, having to constantly press the Right Mouse button was/is very annoying. For the attacks, I just reassigned my keys so that the E and R are assigned to spells so that I don't have to stretch for C, as for secondary melee attack I assigned it to Left Shift key.
Anyway, if you are not having fun, just stop and give it a few days, you might just be relaxed enough to beat Quincy. I reckon, after you beat Quincy, you are just going to feel a bit disappointed for all the frustration he caused and move on.
Thank you! I spent a good bit of time last night looking for how folks re-assigned their keys in order to make the fights easier, but couldn't find anything helpful. I might try this when I feel up to giving it a go again.
What key do you use for jumping down cliffs then? The default is shift, and using the left shift is so cumbersome (I keep hitting capslock).
