Cant move stairs to second floor

get warning cannot break path to ground, I want to move my stairs annnnnnd it just wont, no matter what walls I delete around it, I even wiped out my entire second story and it just wont move

Build temporary second stairs elsewhere, move old stairs, remove temporary stairs.

You always need stairs connected to a second floor (otherwise you would create a shut-off area)

Thanks for the tip, it worked!!! If you build a second stairway and connect it to the next floor, you can finally delete/move the old one. phew. I thought I was goinna have a freaking nervous breakdown lol....is that even a thing anymore?
