How much effect does armour have on servants?
Lets say I have a level 40 brute, is it a waste to put him in decent armour that uses copper? Like will he ever pay for himself? Same for weapons, does the weapon given to him have to match the type he normally uses?

Pretty sure initial level of the servant doesnt matter. Only the type of the unit and blood %.
Gear increases the level and success of the servant hunts.
The weapon does not have to match.

Weapon type doesn't matter, just the gear score of it does. Same with armor, the gear score is all that matters.

Gearing your servants only matters based on how you plan to use them. For PvP, you want them as strong as possible to defend your castle, which means you want the highest gear score you can equip on them, and the most annoying/strongest fighters the game has to offer.

If you're using them just to send out on missions, then their blood purity and what type of fighter they are isn't as large of a factor. You want to diversify what you have (brute/warrior/rogue/etc.), consider where they come from (they collect 20% more resources if they're from the same area), and then equip them with decent gear. Sending them on missions that match their blood type and locale results in high success rates and more resources.

Higher Gear, Means Better Mission Rating. Yes, In due time they'll pay for their own gear when you send them out. No Weapons given don't have to match what they use.

Ok thank you for explaining that, so gear score is important for PvE

To actually answer your question. They HAVE to have the appropriate gear score to go into the area you are trying to send them.. like my 7 servants are all in merciless hallowfang gear with merciless iron weapons they have a score around 600-700 and can pretty much do everything except the last zone. So YES you want to put them in as good of gear as you can.

Ok, I'll get them into some good stuff for now and gear up grinding to get them into better kit soon.
