Is single player fun?
The idea of losing everything to people who've been playing for a year and having to log in every single day just to stay competitive does not appeal to me in the least. Is single player even viable?

I play only PvE, mostly solo, and enjoy it quite a bit.

If you don't want PvP to ruin your day, then don't choose a PvP server. Stick to PvE servers, or run your own private server.

I've never played PvP in any of these kinds of games. I just build castles, bro.

I recommend increasing the amount of ressource drops and stack size if you play single player. And allow using portals with ressources if you want to use the portals from the start. Just "finished" a game solo and I think it took me around 40 hours with ressource drops buffed and I took my sweet time to build an epic castle.

Ressources seem to be balanced around having friends to gather ressources so to me it make sense that we have to increase it for solo players.

That won't happen anymore on official servers, they will be wiped every 6 months.

Solo is very fun, all my game time is solo. Having a blast with the game.

Its really nice to get help with some boss in PVE servers when you really need it.

Game is fun in single player, you can customize your experience pretty well, you can change how strong or weak you, normal enemies or bosses are, resource yield, all kinds of stuff. Only two things you're not gonna be able to change are the servant mission timer and ability cooldowns.

Either way, play it your way ;)

Do things like followers and keys and base raiding and stuff come into play at all in single player? Or is tall that stuff only for PVP?
Suzaku May 20, 2023 @ 6:36pm
Followers can be sent out on missions to gather resources. Otherwise, they just walk around the base, killing the occasional deer or wolf that might wander too close.

Things like keys, siege golems, raids, are all PvP-only.

I'm only 12 hours in, first timer.

Solo server, custom settings that basically eliminate resource grinding and waiting on crafting timers.

Really enjoying the game play loop. Bosses are challenging but not frustrating (yet). Base construction isn't as cumbersome as I assumed, and the combat feels great. Camera takes some getting used to, no lock on targeting, but, again, designed for PvP and makes sense for skill testing.

Traveling is a little tiresome, but I understand it's designed for multiplayer (still wish there was a hearthstone to get me back to my castle with a click).

Love the world scaling, as you get more powerful you dunk on lower level stuff. Almost wish there was a way to grind out power by farming (FromSoft style), but progression is gated behind crafts that are only handed out in a systematic way. $15, was a no brainer.

Highly suggest taking a look at the Farmlands to get a movement speed increase. There's a Farm on the east entryway. c:

The solo experience in this game is still quite fun.
There are a couple of bosses later on that you may struggle with solo though, especially the shard holders. So keep that in mind.

I was able to solo every boss (haven't tried solo Adam yet though..) at default enemy settings. So it is possible.

Servants do seem to work better than they use to now for solo play. For instance, even in your private solo world while you are offline their mission timer does still tic. So you can be offline for 16hrs and come back to a 16hr mission you sent out just before logging off and it will be completed.

You can also use Dusk Callers to warp charmed humans back to your prison cells.
The charmed humans can continuously provide you with a specific blood type... So if you find a high % type you like, capture them!

Apart from that, I suggest you tweak the settings a bit for solo play,
(Assuming you already have a world created) in game, go to "Continue" and under "LOCAL SAVES" select your world and look on the right, you'll see "Go to Directory"... Open (in Notepad) ServerGameSettings.JSON

make a newline and paste the following in:

"TeleportBoundItems": false,
"InventoryStacksModifier": 5.0,
"DropTableModifier_General": 2.0,
"DropTableModifier_Missions": 4.0,
"MaterialYieldModifier_Global": 3.0,
"ServantConvertRateModifier": 20,
"CraftRateModifier": 10.0,
"RefinementRateModifier": 10.0,

You will have to restart V Rising completely for all of them to take effect.
This is what these settings will do:

TeleportBoundItems - You are allowed to use waypoints when carrying materials. If you aren't pvping, there is no reason to not use this.

InventoryStacksModifier - Everything will have 5x the stack size in your inventory (and chests)

DropTableModifier_General - Drop rates are doubled (meaning a 5% chance to drop is now a 10% chance, etc). Unless you want to grind a lot, highly recommend this.

DropTableModifier_Missions - Drop rates for Servant Missions are quadrupled. This will help you immensely with farming but you can adjust it how you like from 1 to 5.

MaterialYieldModifier_Global - Materials are gathered at triple the normal rate. If you would have swung at a stone and received 10 materials, you'll get 30 now.

ServantConvertRateModifier - When you place a human in a coffin it will convert to a servant at 20x the normal rate. It is just annoying to wait hours for the regular rate. Definitely use this.

CraftRateModifier - Crafting items is done at 10x the rate.

RefinementRateModifier - Refining items (turning copper ore into copper bars for example) is done at 10x the rate. You will want this one... later on there are refinements that STILL take 20 seconds with this on!

I "beat" the game Solo (more or less, had a buddy who was on for a tiny bit with me) on a private server. If you use the default server settings, I personally would say no. HOWEVER, I changed the NPC HP to 25% for little dudes, and 50% for bosses and left their damage at 1x. This makes bosses possible to kill without being too easy or Bethesda levels of HP bloat. I also cranked up resource gathering as high as it can go across the board to avoid any grindy-ness. Also castle height up to 6 because towers are cool. My main gripe with the game is that the NPC bosses seem to have a more consistent use of abilities than a single person can deal with without immense skill. Especially the soul shard (SUPER end game) bosses are absolutely ridiculous. Even with the double dodge travel ability, pistol dodge, healing blood spell, and all that I just can't survive long enough to do anything to them really.

However, all in all game is great. Just needs some tweaking for single player mode which I've heard the devs are working on (but having trouble with)

I tried it, but the L-stairs tell me, that they need ground connection, so I can't build a winding staircase...

To use the L-stairs, you'll need an open tile of floor at the bottom (that it connects to), and then you'll need to place another one at the top if you want to connect L-stairs to it and keep spiraling up.

I did it like that...the problem was that I placed a floor at a place u couldn't reach.
but without the floor u can't build a wall. And somehow even the invisible floor tiles need to be kinda reachable...
