If you find out I'd appreciate a shout as I can't get a floor placed either.

Idk whats not working for you. Just go up the stairs and place foundations where the staircase ends.

Also keep in mind that you need to have claimable tiles available to you as if you were expanding the base on the ground level. A silly restriction though you're essentially paying twice for the same column of space, one floor tile is x distance above another.

Another problem I heard about is that your beginning ground level counts against the max z axis you can climb, so if your server caps the z axis at 2 floors building on any of the hills would essentially count as that second floor.

Build stairs.
Place floor at the end of the stairs foundation to expand floor.

You have to place as above, the limit begins half way up the stairs (you can't build down from up, and up from down unless you're on that level)

So go to the top of the stairs, and add a "foundation" anything in the floors at the end of top part of the stairs and go from there :D

I'm not sure why this isn't working for me. I place a stair piece, which opens the roof up, but any foundation I try to place goes in at ground level.

Make sure you are on the stairs (halfway or higher) and looking to the top end. It might not be clear if you have the foundation snapped, but click it anyways and if you have one set, it'll set. If you don't then nothing happens.

Wow, finally got it to work. That needs a better preview before placing a foundation. Thanks for the help!

Yeah agree that the stair mechanic needs some finetuning.
I also found that you have to be extra careful how and where you place your stairs and need to plan very very precisely in advance before building higher floors. Because once you built a 2nd floor, you have no chance to dismantle the stair. Probably cecause the connection to the castle ground gets deleted with it so the game doesn't allow it.

They should make it possible to delete the stair and till you build a new one, you only get no access to the 2nd floor

This sounds dumb, but it only worked for me once I removed one floor on the ground floor so the roof disappeared. Then I could add a new floor piece at the top of the stairs.

That is a easy One .. Put down stair .. go up .. put down floor and then walls.

You have to hold down the placement button it doesn’t highlight like the normal way

Thats a point they shall fix, as I see it as a bug, since no castle would be like that at the really bottom, most places are highers ups to built at. Thats a point they shall looked into while programming it lol

The workaround for this one is to place another set of stairs that will connect to the same floors your stairs are connected to.
