If you need merciless weapons, you can grab a handful of copper coins and visit one of the shady dealer camps and just buy a recipe.
I'll do myself a favor and just Ignore your topics.
you have to adapt to each fight's boss's and pattern.
i'll agree however that some requirement are bullSith, like athaneium being unlock literally when you don't really need it anymore, it's just comfort at this point
Sounds like your trying to stick to melee to continuously deal damage, which isn't how this game plays. As you progress, you'll find this works less and less as bosses become more complicated and much more lethal. The combat is more about not getting hit and dealing as much damage as you can, when you can. It's not a slobberknocker, it's tactical and manic.
As for the merciless copper, it's needed because it's how the tech tree works. You could use the same argument with any progression step. The only thing I'll agree with is it's awkward to get them. That said, someone has already suggested trading for the recipe, which is guaranteed to get you what you need.
You do not need a mace to mine iron. Any merciless weapon will do, they'll just be slower. I don't think you'll actually lose any resources by using another weapon.
Clive is... yeah idk dude, I killed him tons of times with regular copper weapons and once even with reinforced bone crap and a blood rose ring because I only had leather that I picked up. He's annoying, not impossible, it's a patient fight that kills impatient people. The dopey little fop literally can't hit you unless you walk into a bomb. His retaliation attacks take forever and a day to go off, you'll be fine.
Also... you don't need to kill Clive, the Ferocious Bear gets you the same benefits as he does, a way to get to Quincy... But if you want to, get a crossbow and turn him into a porcupine (warning: aiming required) or just grab your copper sword/mace and spin/leap out of bombs, or into them, your choice, I've done both and still won.
Pattern weapon-tier-from-boss -> weapon-tier-from-research is repetitive in V Rising and encourage to exploration (or investment in paper press). This is good that now we can buy book with it. This game just doesn't predict skipping gear tiers. Iron is necessary only later in Farmlands, all Falbane Woods are copper and merciless copper oriented- to acquire iron ingot recipe you must kill Bandit King - last boss in area.
Need iron for Throne? Wrap up things in Woods and move on with tech tree. Later quest will request materials from next area too, that normal.
