red ghost in the farmlands?

A friend and I killed Bane the Shadowblade and noticed a red ghostly human disguised skeleton walk past. We couldn't attack it, so we followed it for a bit. It didn't seem to lead anywhere so we stopped following. What was it? If we had continued to follow it would it have led us to something? Is it just the ghostly remains of Bane?

It appeared because you still tracked Bane. It's the manifestation from it or the "respawn timer". If the timer disappears the "bloody ghost" will change into the boss.
