Lore Question: What is "V Blood" and why do the bosses have it?

Is V Blood just a term used to describe the boss npcs of the game or is it an actual substance in universe? I know its not an item that is obtainable such as blood essence. I was just curious as to what exactly it was.

As I understand it, V Blood is possessed by humans who are distantly related to Dracula, who is depicted as either the progenitor of the Vampire race or the most powerful/both.

I'm not sure how some non-humans have it, possibly Dracula used his power to create them or their ancestors, and/or in the case of Blackbrew, he's probably using Dracula's blood to help create his monstrosities.

The lore takes place hundreds of years after the fall of vampires to the might of men, and the V Blood carriers are descendants of Dracula. You are the resurrected Dracula, weakened and arisen to reclaim your power and rightful throne at the top of the hierarchy.

Are you sure we are Dracula? I was under the impression that he was an entirely separate vampire and the player vampires were among the ones that fled to the Farbane Woods in ancient days after he fell. I mean it would have to be, right? This is a multiplayer game, we can't all be Dracula! :)

Do we have any sources from the devs about V Blood carriers being descended from Dracula? I know Beatrice is, but are the others the same? And that still leaves the question of the beasts that have it? Experiments perhaps?

Don't listen to the two above, they haven't read the lore very closely. The real answer is that after Dracula was defeated in the game's backstory, there was a protracted, toxic rain of blood that lasted for somewhere between weeks to months (I've forgotten the exact amount of time as it was a few years ago I read the lore). A rare few survived and were "blessed" by the same dark powers that empowered Dracula. In the case of humans, the V Bloods are (mostly) their descendants. In the case of monsters, most of them were original servants of Dracula, or in one case, Dracula's favored pet.

There's no evidence that we're the resurrected Dracula, though that IS a possible twist, I'll admit. I think we're just a random vampire and our backstory is our own to imagine.

If by "dracula" you mean "a vampire" then sure.
