The towers block lightning in the area until you charge batteries on them; do a once through and wipe out the enemies while under the safety of the towers and then use them to charge batteries.

Pop a fire resist potion, I find that helps.

But yes, there ought to be frost and lightning resist potions.

its safe where you charge the batteries until you take them out, and when you take them out the lightning only appears in the immediate vicinity. so just kill the nearby enemies and then put your batteries in. when you take them out just move away. usually i just go kill the mobs by the tower while standing near it so lightning doesnt hit me, stick in my batteries, take them out, and then move on to the next tower. i feel like lightning is a non-issue unless you are fighting away from the towers, in that case you need to dodge all the time.

The charging machines will patiently wait and be safe havens until you pull the batteries out, then they go mad.
Clear the area, fill up all the machines at once, then loot them all at once and run away.
