Undeads are best battled with the reaper. Also use enchanted and ferocity brews. And try unholy purgatory ability - cast it on yourself to gain health quickly.
And i strongly recommend investing time into finding and imprisoning a warrior with 100% blood, that dude is a life saver.
And keep trying. Try different abilities, read carefully their descriptions, find what suits you Best.
Ps: i notice that sorting of bosses in blood altar is not always proper. I Sometimes skip to the next boss and find him much easier. Then, when i feel that i geared up enough, i return to the unbeaten lower lvl bosses.
His hardest attack is when he spins at you. Save your dodge for that. The chains can be side-stepped and if you have a block its pretty effective at them as well. Other than that I've found its best to kite him.
blocking with the unholy block summons skeletons, which gives you some free time when enemies target the summons.
the chaos volley does good damage, and adds damage over time.
scythe does bonus damage to undead.
blocking the three projectiles at point blank is recommended, you summon a skeleton for each. you can safely block the spin, but dodging might be better there.
Throws out the three chains to drag you back.
If you get dragged to him, just keep running through/around him so you're behind him. Then melee attack him. Great time to use special melee attacks, Q and E. You can usually get off several hits.
Hilariously, his most dangerous attacks was just a random melee attack. For some reason, I get hit by that one a lot. Trying to run around to his rear doesn't work, as he can rotate in place pretty fast. If you see him rotating like that, use your move power to get out of the range fast.
AOE circle.
Dude stops moving, becomes a nice immobile target. The least dangerous of his abilities, unless you're stuck somewhere. You usually have plenty of time to run out of the AOE circle before it goes off. Only danger here is if he hit you with weapon, and you're slowed & move power is on cooldown.
Rotating charge.
He usually telegraphs this move, by swinging his weapon back and holding it at the end of the backswing. Then he charges forwards, spinning like a top. Just run off to the side, there seems to be a limit of how much he can turn while frozen in mid back-swing. He'll usually end up spinning off to nowhere. When he stops, unload on him. He's a sitting target for a split second.
Btw, if you use spells/abilities a lot, this is a guy you don't want to just kill once, or to get out of his way. You want to farm him for a rare recipe drop called the "Generals reaper". The item he drops is a green round stone with a symbol on it. The undead commander at the church of the damned, and the haunted iron mine, can both drop this item.
Generals reaper is identical in stats to a merciless iron reaper, except it adds +6 spell power, and +5% spell crit chance. +6 is a MASSIVE bonus. Combine it with one of the plus spell power potions which drop randomly from some places for an insane +10 spell power. And of course, you can use jewelry with spell bonuses too. Makes your spell bolts hit like mack trucks.
This weapon makes farming the church of the damned a lot easier, which you'll want to do later on for scourgestone and other resources. Also makes the fight with leandra the shadow priestess a lot easier for spell users.
Undead general is also a great source of scourgestone, and can drop up to 2 pcs per kill. Leandra is also a good source of gold jewelry btw.
I reedited that post a lot, might want to re-read it again if you have time. Undead commanders are the best source of scourgestone I've found so far, so I've killed a ton of these dudes.
