You can perfectly playing solo ( you'have an option for playing offline for that ) , and, for me, the run 's good for the actual price.
To be clear, the endgame content lack, but, you have some good hours of playing for the actual early acces price before getting bored by actual content.
It's entirely possible to play without anyone else, but it is objectively more fun to have one or two other people around.
You can make the game your playground.
The only thing that can be frustrating is having to time a boss fight / travel time from my little fortress. If the sun comes up during a fight ( which it seems to always do" it becomes tough. I wish i was able to have a bunch of places around the map. It is fun alone, but im thinking of trying to find someone to play with, even if it's a new game. That way I can have fun with people but also have the option to play alone :)
Why?
Bosses health doubles with another player just being nearby.
That means other people can hang around and make your fights hard. Basically, for each additional player the boss just gets a ton of extra health.. making the fights just take longer.. and longer..
Low level players try to join higher level content for free rides (Power Levelers).
Eager players who want that next +1 might lurk and try to join in a boss fight without an invitation, or offer to help when they are severely below level for content.Power leveler's lack personal investment into their rewards, and quickly become disappointed when the EZ train stops.Power leveler's tend to have less appreciation or respect for other players as a way of badgering them into helping the power leveler achieve their desires.
Limited space to build.
Players tend to make these giant barn-castles that just occupy as much space as possible.Castles cover most of the free space on a map on the servers you see with active players. Remember that for each player online, there are probably 5 offline, each of them built 2 barn-castles already which makes it hard to find your own space, let alone a good space.Castles take a long time to decay (about 2 weeks since the player's last login). You can claim abandoned space after the other player's castle decays.. but only if you are online and someone else doesn't beat you to it. You could play on a low population server, where more land is available, but it will basically feel like solo play then.
Like many online games, the players can be pretty toxic or unresponsive in multiplayer.
Character names in a multiplayer environment can be inappropriate for children. It is frequent to see phallic references, or word play for offensive sexual innuendos. Many players are silent, and simply do not respond or interact in chat so you can't really expect cooperative play unless you know someone irl
.Multiplayer is focused on PvP so you can wreck castles to claim your place and meddle with other player's success in boss fights. There is a minor advantage to having servants go collect while you are offline on a multiplayer server, assuming that other people ARE logged in. If no one is logged into a multiplayer server, it too stops timers.
You can have multiple bases if you want. You can increase the amount of castle hearts that you can place from the maximum of 2 on standard settings. You can definitely make a base on each every map region if you want. You can also adjust inventory stack size, loot rate, resource yeild, etc. Game is very tweakable if you want to make your own server.
the double hp argument is nonsense since 2 players will do more dmg than twice the dmg a single person could do because while the boss isnt throwing stuff at you, its easier to do damage. if you play solo, ALL the stuff will come at you, making you dodge more than dps.
"Low level players try to join higher level content for free rides (Power Levelers)."
that can be an issue but it doesnt always happen.
"Limited space to build."
thats just barely relevant to the difficulty
"the players can be pretty toxic or unresponsive in multiplayer."
well of course if you have trash allies its going to be harder... if you play with decent people, its easier in multiplayer
Fair point. You can zerg the boss in multiplayer. This is true.
Can't say that I agree on this tag-team style of play, due to the boss area effects and random target switching.
What I've experienced, as example, is the boss will use their charge attack at the far away player who is using their potion, and this unfortunately breaks tether and resets the encounter. I see more boss fights reset in multi than solo.
The area effects still target and hit all players, so the disco dance is pretty similar solo or multi. One challenge is when the second player draws AoE ground effects into your safe path, i.e. players don't pay attention whether they are running towards another player or another player's intended escape route.
Since the boss swaps targets randomly in multiplayer, it can cause a lot of missed shots, and the players use a lot of time maneuvering like dope-on-a-rope. I move into range, boss gets led out of range by other player kiting, boss turns and aggros me, now other dude is out of range and has to close the gap.. boss and players are bouncing all over.
In solo, I can control where the boss moves, and predict where to drop my scythe attacks or how to lead a shot with a spell. I would say my net DpS in solo is higher, actually.
Good on you, if you have some solid mates who can work a tight proximity and such. My fortune has always been to play with random groups since my mates don't game much anymore.
Your comments make me miss guild raiding. =) maybe you can explain how you coordinate the tactics and ground rules for the fights in multiplayer?

Yes I saw that you can tweak stuff, but I might just change the stack sized for items, I don't want to make it any easier on myself as I want to play through as the devs intended. But I think that playing with someone might be fun. I am going through solo because I figured signing up to a pvp/pve online server would be better after I understand how everything works mechanically and how to play and not grief others.
I gotta convince some friends to play!
Thanks for the advice on the stacking of materials though i'm gonna look into that NOW. lol
