popping a potion to top your hp to the lowered cap has saved me more times then I can count though, most bosses wont give you a chance but there is always a window to pop a quick bloodrose potion.
The quicker you stop relying on blood mend the quicker you will enjoy the game OP.
You get stronger healing potions that can do quite a bit but will still be combat canceled.
The only ways to heal during combat are spells or life leach. Theres targeted heals, or at least one that ive unlocked so its a matter of progression too.
1)Brute blood/scholar blood(read descriptions and you will get it)
2)vermin salve&blood rose these are craft-able potions
3)Sanguine coil, crimsome beam, heart strike these are strong healing spells you learn from defeating certain bosses(and 2 of yr starting spells but these are rather minor)
4)Pendant of the wicked profet a craftable jewel accessory that give life leach on spells.
As for in combat healing potions try dashing first then using a potion(unless the enemy happens to be doing some AoE ability hell waste some 2 seconds chasing yr shadow giving you some time to heal(you can extend that time via foot work or using a shield ability to buy 2 more seconds(provided you don't get hit by an AoE)
What do you mean trash RNG system? Isn't it made with super common materials?
What he means is the system in place in how you acquire said recipe for the blood rose brew. Turn in 50 paper to unlock a random recipe in the research desk, or get the recipe as a drop from a mob, boss mob is what dropped mine.
You may 'luck out' and unlock that tech first(lucky you) OR last(FML the end games bosses are next and i'm stuck on 60% blood&vermin salve kind of situation)
Oh, that. Should it not be a non-issue once you're able to get paper presses going? Until that point getting by with vermin salve isn't too much of a handicap. You could say the same thing about the upgrade to merciless copper weapons/armor.
I don't get that. Don't you unlock the means of making your own paper around the mid game? And at that point you should be able to make so much paper that you can just go ahead and unlock everything on that earliest tech tier.
Get in, keep dodging and blocking things to heal yourself, should you get hit.
Of course not getting hit in the first place is the best "heal" out there, anywhere.
I find it's completely the opposite, that it heavily punishes being aggressive. You get hit once, that's damage you're not easily healing back. You kinda have to play it like a granny playing dark souls, hit once, dodge a bunch of times, then go in and get another one hit in five minutes later.
Personally I would've preferred the tank/healer/dps dynamic but I can understand why they didn't go for it.
