Whats the point of defenses?
Guys is there something I dont get here..? Whats the point of building a well defended castle? As far as I can see that only makes it take a bit longer for someone to break in, right? So when Im online while Im attacked, either I can beat the attacker or I cant, what good does delaying the breakin do me? And if Im offline it doesnt matter ♥♥♥♥-all, does it?

What am I misunderstanding here..?

Its like rust or DayZ... you cannot stop assaults, only make it more annoying to the people assaulting. Ideally annoying enough they wont bother.

So the optimal defense would be just layer after layer after layer of gates one after the other..? And then hope people will be like "oh ♥♥♥♥ off with this" and leave? Thats... lame.

the defences are there to deter/delay.
idk exactly how well that works in this game, havent tried per-se. but the ideea should be the same.

blowing up defences are often costly in other games. and if u built enough walls/proper defences. they will give up if they wasted to many resources n got nowhere.
Then you can rebuild.

But this game has 2 problems so far.
-blowing up equipment is pretty cheap.
-they can see through walls and find your weakest spot to plan a break.

If you want to be unassailable dont play on a siege capable server? Its obviously not for you judging by your reaction.

How have I said anything about wanting to be unassailable? I love the idea of having actual castle attacks and defenses, which is why Im disappointed at the notion defenses serve only to delay a boring bashing-down-walls attack.
I had hoped for traps, mobs, more sophisticated ♥♥♥♥ sort of in the vein of Mighty Quest for Epic Loot.

Well you have all your servants plus you and ideally your clan? That can be pretty epic IMO. But as far as unmanned defensive fortifications, yea, nothing at the moment.

Solo golem can destroy 12 layers of doors. If you can't afford more than 12 layers, it is pointless to do layers spam. My suggestion is to make 36 banshi trap room and high gear level servants in room after that. The purpose of defense is to delay the enemy. They have a siege timer. If the timer runs out, you can simply rebuild the walls and trap the enemies inside so they can't escape and end up dead.

That makes me, for now at least, wish that there was servers that have PvP in fixed areas, arenas of some sort. The I wouldnt have to worry about the castle and can just make it look cool and still get to PvP. If the castle combat becomes actually interesting at some point thatd change, but for now, I dunno...

It's actually not... Survival games usually have defense/raid systems. Like turrets, shields or animals to soak turrets, traps etc. In some games honeycombing actually is almost or at all not used because you have defence system to take care of attackers or hold them off longer..
It is completely valid that people don't like how current raiding/defending systems are. And it is good they are expressing opinion, since that's what devs asked for - feedback, so they can work on the game better :)

again, not sure. youtube it. but there is a coloseum, nothing there atm.
on pve servers it might be for duels.

These servers exist. Its PvP with no siege... The problem is they fill up fast and the tend to die fast because natural decay of castles just isnt fast enough to keep up with player turnover in 99% of cases.

I mean the combat is super solid already, which is no surprise at all given how this game has Battlerite DNA... I hope the castles get integrated better with it at some point.
Maybe what could be done is have some sort of instanced "castle defences" type area that youd load into and have to fight through before you get to the actual on-map castle, and then that area could be a MQfEL style gauntlet of traps and mobs with points values and such...

Well if you're online, have at least one friend that can help, servants with gear and honeycombing you're pretty much unraidable. But as soon you go off for 10 minutes you're wiped
