Where to farm iron recipes?

5 kills on the bandit king = 0 recipes. Any suggestions? or am I just getting really unlucky?

Killing him unlocks the ability to make the smithy and tailoring bench.

Just farm scrolls instead and research them. Relying on recipe drops is too much rng

I'm aware of what it says it unlocks but for example I farmed all 4 of the armor recipes from Grayson (he only drops the merc copper armor recipes it seems) and all 5 of the weapon ones from Clive (he only drops merc copper weapon recipes it seems).
Also was able to farm Nicholaus a few times to get the jewelry reciepes of that level.

Different bosses do drop recipes and the idea of farming hundreds of scrolls in my solo world to maybe end up rolling my weapons last seems horrible.

Does anyone know what bosses consistently drop iron armor or weapon patterns?

now i understand what you mean, the times I got a recipe for research, it didn't come because I killed a boss. It comes when I killed several folks in a city or camp.

I think I just realized the confusion -- I'm talking about the recipes I see under Armour and Weapons in the Study. I assume they are higher tier iron weapons (Like Copper to Merciless Copper in the Research Table).
I know the regular iron stuff can be made in the Smithy

Concur to this too. Additionally also from breaking barrels, opening chests and also fishing.

I have found numerous merciless iron weapon recipes that I can't make because I haven't found the recipe for the regular iron weapon

There are no fixed drops. Just play the game and you'll unlock things eventually.

Those tend to be from certain bosses, like the greatsword and pistols and scythe.

The only bosses with a reasonable book drop rate are Clive, Nikolaus and Grayson. They will always drop one of the weapon, amulet or armour books respectively.

Almost every boss in the 50-60 range drops a tier 2 book.

Do you even know the drop rates? Have you bothered to look them up? Have you played through the game from 0-84 8 times since the update?
