Does sleep have any use?

Having played Valheim, I thought sleeping would speed time up to the beginning of night, so I was surprised that nothing happened. I get that on PvP servers such a time skip wouldn't make sense but on PvE servers and especially solo play it would be a nice quality of life improvement. I don't mind the daylight laser beam, I just want to be able to skip forward while the crafting ticks away.
