So, the merchants have helmets for 550 silver coins, if the [Silver Resistance Potion] doesn't give you enough resistance to carry it all; how are you supposed to carry all that silver and not take damage?

Other things allow you to stack resistance.

You could also drop the silver and heal, then pick it back up and continue. Vermin salve at least is dirt cheap.

From what I understand the only way to do 550 coin runs is to have the shard effect that adds just enough silver resistance on top.

Nope, just tested this.

With the best silver resistance potion, phantom's veil, and winged horror shard active, I can only carry 427 silver before I start taking damage at 428.

Just run on horse with 1 hp, i done same potion was not enough on nearly 440 gold, i was buying sunflower seeds.

Cloak, silver resist potion, and the obelisk buff of the Winged Horror gives 115 silver resist, which allows you to carry 613 silver coins.

Winged Horror Shard, Silver Resistance Potion and Cloak gives 115 Silver Resistance. This is more than enough to carry 550 Silver Coins.

Silver Resistance Brew is not strong enough.
