And the answer seems to be "no, not at all. Your precious things will be neatly packaged for you to pick up"
Is this still true? Because I've got only 72 minutes in game and can still get a refund.
On a PvE server, not so much, as other players will not be able to access your "death bag" if you die, and it will just be there waiting for you wherever it was that you died.
So there is no way to die, no "game over" possible no matter what. The best you can do is "faint" and helpful elves clean your wounds, carry you home, and tuck you into your coffin. Really cute and sweet really, but not every player can enjoy a game that forces god-mode on you to the point that the worst thing that can happen is someone might take your geewiz stick and fancy pajamas.
In V-Rising, your character is never in any danger, just someone might steal your toys. I get it, and clearly that's fun for some people. I just can't wrap my head around why a game designer wouldn't allow one or two more settings that would let everyone have fun, including those that like permadeath and actual survival settings. I mean come on, a vampire bakes in the sun, turns to ash, blows away in the wind, and still can't be finished? I don't mind that others want to be totally unkillable, but Dev is lazy to not include settings for other play styles.
You can self-impose what you're describing easily enough. I dare say the vast majority of players aren't interested in playing an ironman permadeath game, but you're perfectly free to delete your save the first time you get downed.
Also your comments scream of attention seeking.
Not at all. I think servers should remain exactly as they are, for the people that are enjoying those settings currently in play.
What I said was that the Dev could easily add settings that would 1. Make the game an actual survival game as described and 2. Allow options like permadeath for players what think that's what happens when your ashes blow away in the wind and enjoy the thrill of avoiding that.
So, for clarity, again I say that many other games allow a range of settings from Casual/Low Consequence all the way up to Hardcore/Permadeath. I think it's great that Devs are able to make games which fit the play styles of the many rather than the few. Also, if a game is marketed as "Survival" it should be about survival. V-Rising tossed in a fake survival element to make a cheap grab at the survival segment of the market when in fact V-Rising is a basically a vampire version of Diablo. By suckering survival fans with fake marketing they earn bad reviews and refunded sales. They're new, but they'll do better in the future or perish because disreputable game companies don't do well in the long run.
This isn't totally wrong.
A lot of the mechanics for certain things seem like they're just there to appeal to other crowds rather than well thought out designs from the beginning. They don't seem to know if they want to be Vampire-RUST, something like Diablo-Souls on a smaller scale or something else.
They need to decide which one should be the "default" setting for the game because half-hearting both of them is sure to disappoint both crowds and I'd hate to see this game fail, it's fun.
