Yes… but a thing isn’t beautiful because it lasts. It is a privilege to be among them.
Ok what is coming? That 1 big update I predicted? Then in 3 month game is back to 2 to 3k player base with 90% in single player or co op.
The game needs the following to survive and thrive.
Randomized Boss Locations, so its not so damn boring, you dont even need an alter to find them once you do them enough.
Randomized Maps(thought this is most likely never gonna happen)
Randomized events.
But meh, I got my moneys worth, so if it dies, I wont be bothered.
And being an EA game, you would expect the devs to work on the game frequently enough to add content to it more often...most EA games with active devs release content, big or small in weeks, 1-2 months the slowest.
Its reaching month 4 now and nothing is out. A large chunk of players (at least half imo) play Vrising for the RP and PvE. So naturally, when devs release nothing new, these PvE players will leave.
But if a thing is [marketed] as being ongoing with promises of growing bigger, it choosing to cease lasting without any attempt at growing is an insult to the people who chose to listen to their promises and support it.
If Devs labeled it a final product, a 1.0, AND not introduce a jacked up founders package, less people would have had complaints about it.
In the basic design of V Rising, as stated by others here, it is infeasible to change the base code for the map, the enemies, etc. Especially when we consider this will not generate more sales, it will only pacify the existing players for a few months before they find something else to complain about.
To get sales, they need a paid content release. So if they invest their remaining profits into a better game, such as one with a variegated map that spawns dynamic assets, they get a paycheck and can feed their families while they develop this new game, and they also get a big payday when it launches so they can continue as a studio.
Alternatively, they give V Rising players a pacifier, and take out more loans.
I think V Rising is a really cool game. It gave me over 300 hours of fun! I am glad there will be some more content added later so I can revisit it for nostalgia. I played, and enjoyed it. So, I am grateful. Hope you are too.
I also hope to see a sequel, like, V Rising II: Clan Wars / Rise to Domination or something. I'd buy it.
If an mmo loses most of it's players, then yeah.. it's "dead" in the sense that it will never recover and will be shut down sooner rather than later.
But this game? How can this be dead? It has single player. You can also host your own server. It's not an mmo ... at all.
One day the official servers will shut down, but who cares? They are crap anyway.
Most people play with their friends on private servers.
Let's say that the world does not blow up in the next 20 years and the internet is relatively the same as it is today, i could return to this game after those 20 years, boot up a server and play with my alien friends. The population of this game is irrelevant, as the game is not dependent on the amount of people playing it.
The reason why "it's dead" is only valid for mmos for the most part is because the people playing it are actively keeping it alive. A game like this? It's kept alive as long as there are funds for development from the initial sales, and even when development stops, it will still be there.
The only thing that can kill this game is a situation where modern hardware can no longer run it.... or steam shutting down.
