Question - Teleporting With Materials
I'm tempted to enable it, but i'm someone whose pretty hesitant to make something too easy and trivialize things, so I'm really conservative with my solo increases.

I'm only just starting into Iron (haven't found the ore yet), so, without spoiling anything, can anyone above that tell me if the teleport restrictions while holding resources are more of a low level challenge until you overcome it with upgrades and powers or if it is just a handicap for the sake of it?

I just don't want to enable it and trivialize the struggle too much.

A simple, "Things get better later" or "No it pretty much feels like it just exists to slow you down" would be fine. I'm enjoying the unknown rewards when hunting bosses and such.

I hope that makes sense, lol. Thanks for any insight guys! :)

it's still annoying later to not have it. won't spoil which monster, but Tier3 area (silverlight) is a pain to have to go back and forth from/to

i disabled it pretty fast as IMO in solo the 2 thing interesting are boss fight, and castle building, and no teleport only make the inbetween longer without any real gameplay change (no risk of being killed by player)

The purpose of it is to make it a danger to carry lots of resources across the map while other players could kill you and take your stuff.

If you're playing solo or pure PvE, then it serves no purpose other than to annoy the player.

It just removes a lot of needless back-and-forth pain. You still need to contend with travel as Waygates are pretty stretched out.

If the default was similar to Valheim where only certain high-value items/ores couldn't be teleported, maybe, but the default is pretty much every single item sans your own equipment and essence/hearts. A little stupid to not be able to teleport with bones or grass.

You will waste ALOT of time on travel times without it. There is a power you can get later on that essentially lets you fly and it also doesn't let you do it without not having resources in your pack. However if you use that option, as I have found out. You can in fact fly with resources it has saved much time and heartache. I would highly suggest putting it on, it does not trivialize the game as my friends and I have gone about putting teleports around the map anyways because it is straight up faster than just flying.

Tldr: It saves time, and that's about it.

Teleportation restrictions are in the game to make PvP more viable, as without it the only way to get resources from players is by raiding their castle which is much more time intensive and expensive to do.

In terms of PvE, teleportation restrictions basically don't matter and the run back only gets worse unless you relocate your base a few times. It's just there to waste your time and the only slight reprieve you get is if you find a particularly high max speed horse to help you run the trips.

We disabled restrictions on our PvE server.

Why? Because it adds nothing to the game, other than annoyance and longer play time.

It makes sense to have it enabled on PvP servers. But for PvE, there's no point to it. It just becomes a nuisance.

here's a different perspective argument i think people overlooked. while yes in most cases that restriction is made to balance the PvP side of things, i think it also add value to PvE server (public one). without it, people can mine from far away without having to migrate their base to the next tier. this become a problem on public server because after a while, the new player area would become crowded with lots of bases because people dont have a reason to move away.

new player thats late to join in the server would suffer the most out of this as they have to go further and further to danger territory to look for a base spot.

so yea, if you plan on playing private server with some friends or solo, i guess it should be safe to disable the restriction. as it only meant to balance things out and made you migrate to later tier area as you progress. if you are making a public server, better let the restriction on i'd say.

I too want to disable the teleport restriction on my two player co-op PvE server. But I don't know how to do it. Can someone explain which option should be changed in the .json file ?

you have something like "TeleportBoundItems", change it from true to false.

A lot of great thoughts on it. Thanks everyone!

I simply unchecked that box and in my game my friends and I can teleport all over with whatever we are carrying.

It can go either way, and if you are a patient and dilligent player then you won't mind sneaking around during daylight with or without supplies. If you don't really want to deal with that extra edginess of having to do everything carefully because of the sun, then allow the teleport with resources and you will just not have to run things back all the time.

It is only a little bit easier.

The only thing I would say as an alternative is up the number of castle hearts you can have. Instead of sticking to two or three, set it at six or more. Then whenever you are heading to new areas, consider making another castle. Then rather than running your stuff back, you just go to your nearest castle with the correct resources. It isn't perfect because a few recipes use resources from different tiers so you will have to do some traveling with resources, but not too much.

All that said, I am sure that a lot of people have six castles as well as allow teleporting. There is really no issue to teleporting with resources except when you want the pvp to actually mean something because part of the pvp will be taking out people that are carrying resources so that you can take those resources.

Teleportation is just a timesaver. It only really matters on PvP servers, where running around carries real risk and isn't just a timesink.
