Sun-Mechanic getting old (fast)
The sun mechanic in V Rising really adds to the fantasy, and I think it is done well on itself.

However, the more I play, the more annoyed I get by it. The novelty of the mechanic has worn off, and now it just feels like it takes agency away.
That is because I feel like the things I can do are vastly limited during the day, and I cannot reasonably commit to certain actions (e.g. boss fights) when the night time is almost over.

I wish there were opportunities in mid- to late game that simply makes you immune against the sun, or that convert its effects to something else (e.g., you only become weaker instead of taking damage).
But at this point, I'd deactivate daytime altogether on my server, if it weren't for the other players on it that'd rather keep it as is ...

Any thoughts from other players in mid- to end-game?

I'm in the way late game and the sun can be irritating, but there are ways to lower its effect to make it manageable enough to fight in the middle of the day.

-You can manage your time better and do some stuff near the area you need to kill the boss before fighting them. You can always use more materials.
-Bring sun resistance potions. They just cost 20 Blood Roses, 20 Mourning Lilies and a water canteen. 15 of each plant if you have the alchemy floor. All of the components are very easy to get during the early-mid game and it lasts for the entire day if you drink it first thing in the morning. I've only ever really needed these potions when I was in Dawnlight since there are fewer shadows to hide in.
-Weave your "Feed" ability in big fights. Your Feed execution move is not only a great way to take out a target very quickly, but it also resets your sun exposure. With a sun resist potion and a cape with sun resistance, you can keep a fight going in the middle of an open field for a decent amount of time.

I was going to type all this myself, but I figured there'd be another end gamer with the same knowledge roaming here. Thanks for saving me the time of writing this up. Well written as well.

agreed. Should just cause you to be weaker and use more blood instead of roast you alive

I'm honestly baffled that you guys are that put off by sunlight. It's really not that hard to just duck between the trees. You'll get burned from time to time and it's frustrating but it adds a lot to the game strategically and in daytime combat positioning. You don't need and umbrella you need to get good.

It can be annoying, but I find it interesting because it adds to the fantasy of the setting, which I really like. There are ways around it, gameplay wise as others have mentioned. It also forces you to think strategically on what to do during the day/night cycle. There could be some implementations the devs could do to help, but I hope they don’t get rid of it completely because it feels right in a vampire-setting game…

I know. Imagine being upset about the effects of sunlight on a vampire. If there is one thing you should have expected when buying this game, is that the sun was going to be an enemy. I'm going to buy an NFL game and complain about all the tackling preventing me from scoring. I should be able to get a jersey that negates the defensive line.

I am on the last 7 bosses on my solo game and have had almost no issues with the sun. Shadows are everywhere you only have to pop in and out for a moment to reset the sun counter. Ad to that the resistence potions and gears and how short day is anyway.... its really just not a problem.
Shovel Fighter 24/mai./2022 às 8:48
I mostly use the daytime for crafting or to expand my base... night time is only for hunting.

So far it's all working out really well, but I have to admit that I've been surprised a few times by the sun myself. but in most cases i then lure my opponents near some shady spots and keep fighting there. That's a bit more stressful, but since the sun damage isn't instant, it's possible. just jump from shadow to shadow.

I've put in 40 hours so far. I like the mechanics. I feel the problem is in the default settings for day-night length. After maxing it out in a custom rule set and still leaving the day length slider in the middle, it feels far more reasonable.

No, no, I think the sun mechanic plays a vital role. They have made this game in such a way that for the most part it avoids frustrating game play yet is challenging. They have done this by use of things like the sun mechanic. Besides it's nothing to hang around, fooling around until the sun goes down.
I have some of my greatest victory's while the sun has been in full bloom. It also adds spice to the fight.

You're a vampire and sunlight the biggest threat to you, want a game with no sunlight? Go into the private server option and set the time scale to be almost always nighttime.

Again: You, are, a, vampire. You signed up for this knowing that the V in Vrising stood for vampire.

Sunlight is not a problem if you just LEARN to play around it, Thank you for coming to my ted talk on common sense and knowing that the character you play as turns to ash as the game has VAMPIRES in it.

in the next update there should be an armor that makes u immune to the sun. saw a vid about it

As long as said armor confers very little positives apart from making you immune to sunlight, yes this is a good idea.

But if it jacks your stats and gives you immunity then thats straight up unbalanced as the point of the game is you are a vampire, so sunlight sucks to be in.

Soul Shard from Solarus gives +50 Sun Resist buff, which while not "immune", still gives you a hell of a long window to stand in the sun when combines with the cloak.

I genuinely don't understand complaints about sunlight in a game where you play as a vampire. Do people just want convenience simulators these days?

I'd rather play a game centered around its theme where you have to work around the mechanics for fun and success. I find it incredibly fun when the sun hits and you are still engaged in a tough fight. Do you run? Do you try to dodge from shadow to shadow while still dodging abilities and finish the fight? Sure, it can be frustrating... but that also just adds to those moments of triumph when you pull off a spectacular end, suck their blood in the sunlight and dodge to the nearest shadow as soon as you are done.

I don't want every fight to just be so straight forward, and this is the one mechanic this game has that sets it apart. It also adds to the immersion and feeling of being an actual vampire. I honestly hate the idea of anything being added to the game that makes you immune to sunlight. I mean hell, they are already really toning it down with sunlight and giving you some time to get out of it for gaming purposes (a smart move.) Think of all those movies and books where the moment the sun hits a vampire, they have like 1 second before they are completely disintegrated.

And that makes complete sense, mastery of mitigating the sun should be reserved for endgame as at the start we are weak just returned vampire.

I really do not get the issue with "the sunlight is annoying reeeeeee" I mean think about it, its cool as ♥♥♥♥. because as soon as the moon rises its your turn to strike unhindered.

Then late game you get tons of sun resist and give enemies the middle finger in daytime combat.

could do with some weather effects to block out the sun, fog, thunderstorms, torrential rain fall.
Good idea, would make the world even more believable, maybe mobs reacting to different weather conditions too, villagers hiding indoors during heavy rain or something?
