Deadlocked on farming my first Iron Ores [Solved]

I'm unable to break the Iron Ore veins with my Copper Mace. So I assume I need an Iron Mace to break those instead. But I can't craft the Iron Mace without Iron, and I can't break the Iron Ores without the Iron Mace, so I'm in a deadlock here.

I found some Iron Ores laying around the Iron Mine, but I find it weird that I'm venturing into the Iron Mine which is relatively dangerous for my level, seeing an insane amount of iron veins, and being unable to mine them - I think I might be missing something obvious here?

Merciless Copper Weapon will break iron

You need a merciless copper mace. One of the bosses has dropped the book every time. I can't remember which but it's a low lvled one.

merciless copper mace, its a random recipe drop from mobs and bosses

As other commented, You need the Merciless Level weapon. Keep killing bosses and take the books for Merciless blueprint

And you can literally use ANY of the merciless ones to slap an ore node. Mace is just the better yield one, if all you have is a merciless sword or spear, poke it with that, you'll still get ore, just not as much.

Need any Merciless weapon to break iron to get the ore.
Then you need Bandit King killed to unlock recipe for smelting the iron.
Even before Bandit King you need to kill the bomber boss to unlock explosive barrels just to get to the Bandit King ;]

Thanks everyone. I already killed the Bomb, the Bear, and the Iron bosses - I got two merciless armor pieces and a merciless crossbow, but still no merciless melee weapons, so I guess I just got unlucky on my drop rolls.

But after your suggestions, I've managed to break the Iron rocks with the merciless bow now - even tho it doesn't give you any ores are you shoot it, so it doesn't seem like it's doing anything, it does give you a full 70+ stack once it breaks. Less than ideal, but it will get the job done until I can craft my first iron weapon.

You need for farm research, for that go around and BREAK EVERYTHING in the bandit camps, I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH MENTIONING YOU SHOULD BREAK EVERYTHING, every barrel, every box, break it. You will find more books and paper doing that than killing bosses.

i was able to break them at Lv36, the only merciless copper weapon i have is a spear but it does the job fine.

I do break everything @Smug Kot - I guess I really just got very unlucky on my drop rolls.
Just finished crafting my first Iron Sword right now - going to raid that Iron Mine something fierce now after I craft the Iron Mace.
