Vampire Power Modifier Key
Hi all,

Just wondering what this key is supposed to do? Can't find any use for it...

It's for using vampire powers by pressing the Vampire Power Modifier + Vampire Power # key combinations, instead of using the wheel. With the default settings Shift + 1 is the topmost skill on the wheel, and clockwise they are Shift + 2, Shift + 3, ..., Shift + 8.
Also, pressing the combination again while the power is active undoes it, unlike on the wheel.

Having the same question, I found this topic first. After looking up the answer, I thought it's better later than never to put it here.

Yes, those keys aren't explained anywhere and ... Well, are they really useful? I mean, I put my wheel on CTRL and it doesn't even take half a second to select the power I want to use.

To use shortcuts, I would have to stretch my hand to be able to cast the spell which in some case is the difference between life and death.

It's a very valid question how useful they are. Though I think the Ctrl + hover + release mechanic of the wheel isn't intuitive for everyone, or something they can get used to, so for them it can be a necessary alternative.
In my opinion they may be better than the wheel when using targeted powers. I find them to be all right for transforming outside of battle, too, when pressing e.g. Shift + 8 doesn't need to compete with moving, etc.
When using heal in battles (where it was possible), I used the wheel and it worked perfectly fine; I'll have to try using these shortcuts for that yet.

You cannot place regular spells in the wheel... so there aren't any targetted powers.

Those powers need to be activated then you press a hotkey to cast the spell associated (like dominate)

But if you need to run and transform into a wolf, a rat or just heal... Maybe dominate and the blood hunger but once you're used to the wheel, it's less confusing and faster.

If at least you could slot those powers somewhere else in the UI with their own shortcuts like just pressing X or Z to activate them instead of shift+8. Hope a mod will think about doing this.

I wish we had dedicated keys for vampire powers. I tried those bindings in the settings menu but the modifier key still needs to be held to make them work...

Yes, unfortunately... You need the key that tells the game it's part of the wheel.
