How can I best progress my character while still playing with all my friends? It's 2022, how did they not think of that?
you are new to gaming right?, this ain't rocket science, name more then 5 games that allow you to use your own character on different servers?
They did. You obviously all join the same server. It's been this way in online games for the last couple of decades. :) The reason is that if characters can hop from server to server, someone could play PvE until they are crazy skilled and equipped and then just jump into a PvP server ready to go. Maybe they'll allow server transfers as a thing at some point, with caveats on what you can take with you. Who knows.
Its a survival game first and foremost, I honestly cant really think of many survival games that let you transfer your character over. Like rust or minecraft, gotta make a new character every server.
To be effective with this, one option would be to have the most active person host the world and everyone join when they are online. Downside would be that others cant play if that person isn't on the game, so your best option is to rent a server and all your friends would have access as long as the server is online.
Almost every game ever made? Including Valheim, which this crowd is probably fond of as it likely influenced the devs decision to make a similar game?
Even the Diablo games have this for the last 20+ years
