Stunlock Studios has a History of Abandoning Games
They abandoned Bloodline Champions for Battlerite.
They abandoned Battlerite for a half-assed battle royale remake of Battlerite.

I'll give credit where credit is due. Both Bloodline Champions and Battlerite were well-thought-out permutations of the PvP MOBA genre, brought into a 'simplified' arena combat system that still had respectable depth.

However, Stunlock Studios clearly has no interest in devoting money into long-term support for any game they produce.

It's a strategy, to be fair. They release quality games and then give up on them. Rinse and repeat. It's a shame they make always online games that are worthless without an active playerbase.

The fact Stunlock Studios has the gall to release a game with $30 day 1 DLC?

Feel free to make your own decisions, but I don't like the idea of these devs half-assing support for another game.

Most of their games have failed but this game had 53k players last night. I'm going to assume this game has already made a lot of money and will continue to do so. So, I doubt they'll abandon this anytime soon.

A fair point. However, all always-online games lose most of their launch-time players within the first few months. It's inevitable, and not a reflection of game quality, simply trend-chasing.

The issue, however, is that Stunlock Studios has demonstrated that they have no interest in maintaining a loyal, committed fanbase through continuously updating their products. Instead, they support them for about a year and then abandon them.

Hopefully I'm wrong. I imagine this is a quality game, but I'm going to wait a year to buy it, because Stunlock Studios has already betrayed my trust twice. If you plan to treat an always-online game as abandonware within a year, be upfront about it ffs.

It's a 20$ game. If I am still playing it in a year I will be amazed.
Budekman 2022 年 5 月 18 日 下午 11:04
suprisingly this is the most stable game i ever play (early acces) bought Warhammer 3 to many bugs , bought ready or not still tons of bugs. hands of this is the most solid game release (early game)
Glitchy Girl 2022 年 5 月 18 日 下午 11:04
I'm not a bot.... at least last I checked? And I may be a bit biased, but having followed this game for some time, and having tested this game through quite a bit. I can say, it doesn't feel like this is something that is just going to be cut and run.

As is Stunlock, have put quite a bit of effort/time into this and and released, "early access" title with a whole swarm of content... for 20 dollars. As is, to my understanding there's also quite a bit more to come.

Regarding the 30 dollar pack? That's simply a bunch of extra cosmetics that they made and offered to folks (probably due to some of the survey results during the testing phase) that include some cosmetics that may not have made the cut come live that could be bought to support the devs. (Yes I ended up getting it >_> )

It gave me nothing that added any content outside of looking fancy. And outside the morphs, any of the clothings, and even building parts can easily be shared, and built for other players. So yeah.

I can say that I dumped about 50 or so hours into the beta, between testing and just playing about. With the released game am now clocking in at 12.5 hours, and having an absolute blast exploring things that I'd not even run into in the beta. Needless to say I'll be enjoying it for some time to come.

Feel free to comment as you like, and voice your opinions. But in voicing mine, I will say... I feel it feels kind of cheap to me to try to pass judgement on an indy company that released one or two free to play versions of their game. (Mind you with packs you could pay for that probably helped fund the game) And then, moved on rather than go broke or die off trying to fix their mistakes.

To save space I'm going to cut out most of your comment in the post, but you bring up some very fair points. I don't disagree with any of them, except this one.

Bloodline Champions was free. Battlerite early access cost $20, which I gladly paid. I gave Stunlock Studios the benfit of the doubt, assuming they wanted to reboot and release the original game with some polish. They released it as F2P, true, and locked new champions and skins behind the standard F2P paywall.

I'll give them credit again. They respected Beta players, and provided all new champions to them for free, since they already committed to the game.

That said, if Stunlock released single player games that I could still enjoy, I would have absolutely 0 complaints. But they didn't. When devs get bored of an always-online game, there is no more playability left. Battlerite has several handfuls of dedicated players still playing. It's that good of game. This, in spite of that fact that Stunlock has only been offering discounts on skins for the past

If I were a bit younger I'd say "enjoy your copium kiddos!" but hey, if you're happy spending $20-50 dollars on a game that won't exist in 1-2 years, feel free. It's the price of a cheap dinner, and I suspect this game will occupy considerably more time than an entree or two at a restaurant, for instance.

That said, this will happen again. I say this with some confidence, because they've doubled down on monetizing that same approach. They've abandoned the F2P monetization strategy, as that depends on supporting a game for a long period of time on a shoestring budget. Instead, Stunlock trying to get more money upfront, selling DLC packs of skins along with a pay-to-play game, because unlike Riot or Valve, they don't play on milking you with cosmetics for years to come.

Instead, they'll get bored and move onto something else.

I see. Well, perhaps I just tend to be the eternal optimist here.

I do hope that you are wrong in this instance.... if only so I can say, "I told you so on down the road." xD

I suppose time will tell! On the bright side, the game as it has been released is a fairly stand alone product with plenty of fun to be had even playing it by yourself on a session that you spun up on your machine.

So if they do end up moving on... it it something that can be enjoyed in the absence of servers.

Gave you an award. Thanks for posting this. It is for this reason that I DO NOT purchase early access games (AKA long-term betas). I was tempted with this one though, due to loving vampire lore.

Crap, I got on a tangent and made some edits to my post after you replied; I did some research to make sure I wasn't talking out my sphincter. I partially was: TL;DR I didn't pay for Bloodline Champions, I payed for the beta of Battlerite because I wanted to give Stunlock another chance.

If there's a lot of standalone content that doesn't depend on other players, then Stunlock has certainly learned some valuable lessons from their previous projects.

I just want people to make informed decisions. I haven't played or purchased this game. I'm just a bit jaded, because I loved Stunlock Studio's previous work and feel a bit shafted by their approach to games.

Having a dead game be abandoned isn't abandoning games. It's just smart business. Battlerite was averaging like 2k players on a good friday night after a month into launch with endless support and releases, and the servers for BLC and BR are still up.

They didn't really abandon the game, at all - the players abandoned it. Just my thoughts.

You are going to wait a whole year before deciding to buy a 20$ game because it might not have players by then. why not spend 20$ and just have fun with the game while people are having fun with it. its like talking yourself out of spending money to have fun. must be a boring life you have.
This game is well polished and couldve released as not early access. There is lots to do im 15 hours in and havnt left the first area of the game yet there is 4 more areas on the map. lots of bosses and creatures for me to kill still.
Even if its abandoned that doesnt make it any less fun now. i dont understand you people.
