Help getting to Iron

So, I'm playing solo. I just got to the point where the game wants me to build a throne to command my minion, but the throne requires iron ingots to build. I looked online, and iron is apparently in a specific lvl 35+ area. Here's the thing: my gear score is only 29, and I don't have any recipes to upgrade it (or new recipes to craft better gear). I have yet to even come across a helmet recipe, for example. Is there something in between malicious copper and iron that I can upgrade to so that I can go after the iron and not get obliterated?

Im in the same position. Im lvl 24. I think its enough to go itno that area. Enemies arent that op with that level difference.
Im also looking out for the blood essence recipe. Thats another needed part for the throne.

you need to get the blueprint for an "upgraded" copper item which will allow you to mine the iron

Upgraded? All the guides I've seen say regular copper gear is enough to mine iron. What upgrade are you talking about? If it's Malicious, then yeah, I've already got that. If it's something else, then I haven't even seen any mentions of it.

Dunno about that. I had a hell of a time with the explosive boss, between him and his five buddies constantly spamming their bombs. I'd rather not rush into an even harder area without some sort of upgrade...or a shorter cooldown on the 'travel' ability.

Guides are lying when they say you need regular copper, i went in there with my copper mace and couldn't mine the iron ores until i made a Merciless Spear (only blueprint i had) and allowed me to mine it with it

If you´re still having trouble, try getting better armour to boost your gear level. There is quite easy V blood/boss in a village that gets you a loom, then you farm cotton.
(There are also random iron spawns in the world, but they are pretty useless.)

Just need to farm mobs/bandit camps to get the merciless recipes for you armor and one or two weapons.

The blood essence can be squished out of heats and rats using the Blood Press. Can't remember which V gives it but you can check online.
