On the gentler side I wanted to mention Dreaming Sarah, a 2D exploration game inspired by Yume Nikki.

And also Yume Nikki's fangame .flow
also you can try quq, but I personally didn't like it that much
It deals with a protagonist who experiences an accident that warps his perception of reality into a world of horror - and he has to adjust to life pretending to be sane while all his friends look like disgusting creatures and even though they're trying to help him he's unable to see them as anything but terrifying.
In fact, I'd say the scene with Mother very much reminded me of Saya no Uta in a lot of ways, particularly because you know it was all in Milk-chan's head but can't recognize to what extent. Nonetheless, it was a brutally horrific experience to her.
