Do you remember where you were having trouble with mouse controls? The demo's on an older build (I think from July) but I want to make sure that there aren't any problems in the release version.
As far as deckbuilding / combat goes- you might get more out of the "War" difficulty on the full release. A lot of players care most for the characters and writing, so the game's tuned to make that an easier transition for players who came in expecting something more like The Yawhg or Monster Prom.
You never end up with control of your build down to the exact items- but you'll have more input than you expect. Each location has different event and reward pools, so you can guide what kind of character you're making when you're used to it. You get exposed to more stuff in multiplayer games, but the demo is single player only so it takes a little longer for it to click.
If you do end up picking it up- let me know what you think after a couple games with friends. It might still not end up being for you- but hopefully you'll feel like you have more autonomy.
