Question about mines
How many mines are there and is every game the same map, or does it randomly generate each time?

Yes indeed, can confirm what Fierman said is correct :)
Thank you Fierman!

Are they roughly evenly spaced, in terms of y? I'm on level 400ish yet only have 6 mines.

Yes they are roughly evenly spaced, so at 400 you should be able to find 10 :)

Well after a bit of backtracking, I'm up to 8.

Also, is there a max distance they are away from the main pipe? My current plan (as of today) is the main pipe being my main tunnel down, with two additional tunnels at 18 and 32, so one space outside of main tunnel view. Should that be able to find them all, or is there a chance for them to spawn on the edge of the map?

I can't even get mines to work. First one in tutorial worked fine with pipes. Now when I buy pipes that extend down, it doesn't even show as an item, just takes my money. Bought the other pipes as well and tried placing those first but it wont even place them. So I cant even use mines at all now.

You need to dig a hole below the pump to make it go down. It goes straight down from the surface. You then branch pipes off when you get to a mine.

When you extend the pipe down, you're not buying an item. It directly extends the pipe down when there is space. This means you do have to dig a hole below the pipe for to have space to go down. You can then branch off the pipe left or right by placing a pipe left or pipe right item.

I recommend playing the tutorial as this is all explained there! If you have skipped it, you could quickly start a new a game and go to the pump to replay the tutorial there - and then continue with your old save.

Hope this helps!

Yeah i figured it out a little after i posted it. Im at 700m barrier now though and cant go straight down so had to go all the way to the side; i set it up to direect in that direction and dug a hole down where you can break through at. However it wont let me place another one to go back down again, and I can't break the other barriers at 700m. I found 2 mines below 700m already and can't figure out how to connect them

That's where it wont let me place pipes anymore now and I can't figure out how to break the other blocks to make my tunnel go straight down

The blocks are only steel plated on 1 side. So you can blow them up from any other side. This means you can blow up the entire barrier from underneath. Just dig underneath it to the left blow it up from below! :)

While you're at it, you can also activate bombs in midair. I thought I messed the whole save file up by digging so that I couldn't get any lower. But I realized that I could just hover next to a block and blow the bomb.

as of now, pipes work fine. each DOWNWARD pipe you place auto builds, the branches i believe work off of the downward pipe, itll extend till it hits a wall.

I did some experiments - most coverage acheived for additional tunnels on 9 and 40. But leaves 2 wide blind spots if you want not just find mines, but also dig out valuable resources such as gems and chests

The dev separated the height in 25 containers equaly spaced and every container have a mine in some random x and y whitin it's range (or at least happened like that in my world).

For example, the first mine is not random and have y=3, so the second mine can be found between y=41 and y = 80.
