Story Mode off?
The story mode started by describing stuff that seems like another mode. Is there a place to play the first part of the story?

x2, they speak about the labrys incident, and that was from the non ultiamax game (boss character i think)

"P4A: Story Mode" is what you're looking for. Can't blame you for getting confused though, I'm not sure why they didn't make it more clear for new players where to begin with the story.

I too got confused by this at first. I guess the individual stories for each character are the ones you're supposed to do first.

That's right. The screen that allows you to pick different characters from the very start is for the original story, and everything that happens in Ultimax is the direct continuation of that.
