The mad mechanic has three stages:

1. no smoke. items dropped into the mechanic in this stage are not affected
2. the smoke is small and gentle. items dropped there will increase durability
3. the smoke is fast and violent. items dropped there will decrease durability

Hey Rotorist, just bought the game a week ago after watching Splattercat's video. I wanted to ask if you would consider a console command, a cheat, something to make the mad mechanic have its 'repair' phase last longer.
I find a spend a LOT of time waiting in this game. Sitting down waiting for my food to restore my stamina and also staring intently at the Mad Mechanic waiting for the repairing smoke to pop. I have to fully focus too, can't read a message on my phone or anything else I'll miss the smoke or my items will break cause it changed.
Also, why does it sometime cause radiation and sometimes it doesn't? Doesn't seem to have any consistency at all.
Otherwise its been a fun game so far, keep up the good work!

thanks!

so there is a lot of balancing consideration here at play with the mad mechanic because it's very powerful (free repair of everything you throw into it). The radiation cycles in 3 phases: low, medium, high, and it changes once per day. It also emits more radiation when it's in the repairing state.

There is a lot of waiting, but there's a trick: you can drop a wrench or a steel bolt into it and it'll immediately becomes the "good state" that repairs your stuff.

Hey Rotorist, thanks for the reply! Im aware of how it works, though I didn't know that little trick with the wrenches. I was just grumbling at how the smoke sometimes has a double rotation of bad smoke -> no smoke -> bad smoke again lol.

That being said I still appreciate having a free repair. Time and radiation is a small price to pay for pristine items.
