Random Stuttering - A Performance Problem
I am hoping that someone can assist me. I have recently purchased this game and cannot seem to put it down. It has been a fixation of mine for a few days now. However, this game is the only game that I have played in recent times that has given me performance problems and I'm not sure why or how. The problem isn't constant lag, but it is random stuttering. This stuttering can occur when opening a menu, breaking crates and even during combat which has cost me my life or supplies to remedy the damage I have unfairly taken due to said stuttering. I have zero issues playing games that are (at least from my understanding) far more demanding on maximum settings. These games include The Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, heavily graphically modded Skyrim, Medieval Dynasty, various Tom Clancy titles and various MMORPGs like World of Warcraft or Elder Scrolls Online that can handle dozens of players on screen at one time throwing magic at each other.

Why does this game give me stutters? Is there something that I can do to fix this? I have even dropped my graphics settings, lowered view distance, tried v-sync, capped my frame rate and tried windowed and full screen modes. All of these options do not fix the problem. I do not have Nvidia handling my game, either. These are my specs.

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660

I noticed another mention of this a while back. I'm hoping that I can fix this issue because I absolutely love this game and it has been the most fun I have had in a while. Thank you for your assistance if you can help.

did you install the game on an external harddrive?

Actually, I did. Is that the issue? How strange. I suppose all games are different. I have GTAV on an external and I have no issues, but games like World of Warcraft and Overwatch definitely cannot be on one.

However, despite this issue, I did notice that reducing the Render Distance to 8 and the Grass Render Distance to 7 nearly eliminated the problem entirely. I think in an hour, the game stuttered maybe once very briefly. I like to install the majority of my offline games to my external, just to save on space unless I have to do otherwise. I might need to move this to my main drive if the problem returns. Actually, I think I'll move it over and report back. But this setting in particular just about fixed it for me.

Thank you for your response. I love when developers are very passionate about their game and their community. You're very vocal with your player base and I can tell this game has been given a lot of love. I have a lot of feedback that I would love to give. For now, I'll continue wandering The Zone as I await the next update(s) and future title(s). Thanks for your hard work.

Yea please move it to your main drive :) I'm pretty sure the stutter is from the game reading data from the database file. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to load the database into memory instead of trying to access the file each time.

Moments after my response, I did move the game to my main drive and have been testing it by doing various activities. Just like that, the problem completely disappeared with all maximum settings. Thank you so much for the suggestion.

Sounds great!

Unfortunately I can't get the Sqlite to create in-memory database with the unity implementation of sqlite...
