Achievement Hunting Tedium [Solved]
Hello all,

Just wanting to make a post to try and explain my frustration with the following completion achievements:
"Antique Fanatic" - Discover all Trinkets.
"Card Collector" - Discover all Cards.

These two stand as outliers to an otherwise acceptable pool of achievements. In my experience, I had acquired all other 29 achievements by the 8-hour mark. I am now 31 hours in and counting still trying to complete these.

Problem 1: Discover = Collect
"Discover" is a keyword that in reality means "collect". It is not enough to encounter a card/trinket in a run, you must pick it up for the game to register it as discovered.
- For trinkets you are at the mercy of RNG, and will likely require many runs and prioritising event & shop encounters as much as possible, essentially pigeonholing your pathing and making the map system less interesting and strategic.
- Where this becomes especially frustrating is for cards; there are a lot of them (210 in total). That means you are required to pick up all 210 cards from various card reward pools and shops. Further still, cards can be "Mastered" by completing a run with them, giving them a star icon and turning them gold on the stat screen. This achievement feels more like mastering all 210 cards, not simply "discovering" them.

The problem here is that you will likely see cards and trinkets, learn what they do, and decide never to choose them. In turn you will never discover them. You are being asked to interact with every single item and trinket in the game. Furthermore you won't be able to see "undiscovered" trinkets in the menu, even if you've encountered them previously, which can lead to some confusion as seen in the next section.

Problem 2: Trinket Obscurity
Some trinkets have yet to appear a single time for me, and the game provides no context or aid as to where to find them.
I can't believe in 23 runs, most of which I now exclusively prioritise shops and events to unlock things, some trinkets have not even revealed themselves once.

Looking at the wiki, I think the ones I'm missing are the Gold Coin and Temp Buffs from the Four Doors event which I have never encountered once, but now I will have to find it twice...

To be fair, Gold Coin has appeared before, but it is not a desirable trinket, as again, I need as much gold as possible to purchase all the undiscovered trinkets and cards... (It consumes gold to give you energy each turn). Though it is blacked out in the trinket menu which leads to confusion as I think to myself "wait, I have seen Gold Coin, what am I missing?".

Problem 3: Gizmo
Gizmos are a mechanic unique to Axo, in which you can play a skill, typically costing essence, and you can choose 1 of 2 cards to add to your hand. Recall problem 1 where a card is only discovered when it is added to your deck. See the problem?
Axo Gizmo choices are created for, and removed at the end of a combat encounter. I have tried holding created cards in my hand on the turn I defeat the final boss, but they remain undiscovered. This must be a bug, and it renders the card collection achievement impossible.

Problem 4: Misc Cards
Shop, event and status cards are always "undiscovered". Unlike Axo, I can't explain why, as at least the shop and event cards are added to your deck like any other class card.
Thankfully, these don't count towards the achievement so you can ignore them if you want, though it is disappointing that these cards can never be mastered.
I would suggest these cards be moved to a different section in the card browser.

Please do not make it so I have to play 20+ more runs just to hunt for a given status card. That does not sound fun.

Final Thoughts
I want to emphasise, that I do enjoy the game a lot. The combat mechanics are fun and interesting. In fact, as a result of being forced to pick up every card has changed my perspective on a few and made me appreciate the power of cards I otherwise would not have picked.

That being said, these achievements have seriously bogged down the experience, these are not skilled-based achievements, just massive time sinks. I have resorted to playing exclusively -6 modifier runs to maximise my odds of encountering shops/events (cards/trinkets) and reduce the time spent on fights. Even then, this has still added 24 hours and counting, I would expect this if I were casually playing and unlocking as I go, but I am actively maximising and seeking to unlock them.
At this point, I can't continue as I believe the Axo bug makes the card discovery impossible anyway. I should be able to hunt down the remaining trinkets with some luck.

As a side note, closing the shop permanently closing it off is quite annoying. I know you can check the map in the top right but I've not left the tile. Thankfully you can quit to menu and upon reloading it starts the tile event again, so technically you can reopen the shop, just with extra steps.

Thanks for reading, wondering what other people think.

Hi, the detailed breakdown of this is very appreciated, and I apologize if it became a total grind that eventually ran into a brick wall when trying to unlock everything. I looked into it and when the QA team checked the achievements they had used debug commands to get all the cards and trinkets. Here we are thinking everything worked when it didn't.

We're working on a patch with some fixes so cards and trinkets will be discovered when you see them in a draft, in the shop, or in an event. We'll remove the cards that can't be mastered from the unmastered filter (like Axo's gizmo cards and status cards).

Hopefully these changes will fix most if not all of the major issues you listed :steamhappy:

P.S.
I see how the Cursed Coin can come off as a waste! At first I really disliked it and didn't even want to implement it in the game, but I grew to love it since it changes how you play the game (you'll be more inclined to avoid shops in favor of going to events, Great Stones, or campfires instead).

Thanks for the quick response Be-Rad, I'm glad these are on your radar. I'm sure neither of us want impossible achievements. :lunar2019piginablanket:

Looking forward to future patches and updates. :winter2019coolyul:

Ran into the 4 door event for the first time there, second event. I manifested.

Anyway, I was being cheeky and selected the temp strength buff. Then quit to menu and "continue"'d. The run loaded into the map screen, the buff was gone and I can only move forwards.

Fair enough I can't do the event again, but the buff didn't save?
