Great game, difficulty is pretty high, and that makes it worth the grind to complete it, especially in one go. Incredible that a speedrun mode is also built in the game.

Eddie Hill in the Curse of the Skull Medallion is an unusual entry in Steam. It's a free to play 2D retro pixel platformer made using the Unity game engine.

At face value this looks like a simple template/asset flip as the engine looks like a basic template from Unreal for making a platformer. The twist is that the levels were designed by students. In a noble gesture, the levels were collated and made into a complete game, which was then given away free, to give exposure to the students and presumably give them a good feeling for getting published.

In this case, of course, I can't recommend the game, 2D platforming is a dead genre, and 2D retro pixel "art" isn't acceptable in the age of 3D accelerators. I didn't spend thousands on a gaming rig so I could pretend it was a Nintendo from 1990.

Some of the levels are well designed, however, so I do hope the students go on to get employed in the industry where they can work for professional development teams, and can produce games that don't rely on compromises and crutches like game templates and the blight on game visuals that is pixel "art".

great if you're looking for a short but intense platformer experience. There's a speedrun mode too.

The game is pretty challenging and well thought, but if you decide to play it you must know that on the level 3 the game difficulty spikes, appart from that the rest of the game despite os needing some polish here and there is pretty good.
