Sonar help
I'm basically new but I do know the basics of sonar and other stuff (god bless CW)
But I'm having a bit of a problem with certain things, for example I see that in the "wide" band view I have contacts that basically mirror. Is this just because there are lots of contacts or are they false contacts?
Second thing, what do I do if I can't see the contact's likes in the narrowband display? I've had situations where I was something like 5 miles away from a target and I still couldn't classify him with the array.

Is there something I'm missing?

The towed array always gives two signals of the same contact. One of it is the true, the other the mirrored contact. You can figure out by ordering a course change. The true contact will remain the position, the false one will move on the waterfall display.

For the narrowband, its possible you can hardly identify even closer targets, especially with the very silent ones. Switch between the different narrowband sonars (if available) and use the frequency filters to find minimal amplitudes. also take navigation in account as well as thermal layers.
