Where to start?
I was finally able to install the game in full screen, however not widescreen, but I can manage. How did you start learning this game?

There are tutorial videos which are part of the game installation, explaining the basic concepts and screens effectively.

I myself found a Youtuber explaining the different screens while playing.

What manuals cannot teach, is what I like to call the 'gameflow' = moment by moment player agency.

In the end, it all depends of the time you are willing to spend + level of commitment.

The game also has fairly simple, shorter scenarios, you can pick from you menu screen. Start,. Experiment. Fail. Restart.

These are perfect to dip your toes into the 'dangerous waters'?

Yes, thank you for the advice. I am watching the videos. Unfortunately I can not run this game in widescreen because I am on a gaming laptop and only detects integrated graphic card so I see everything as shown in tutorials, but is enough for me. Hopefully soon I can create my own missions.

You can use this software to enable full screen (I was running on my gf laptop for some mod testing)

instead of checking the "Run in Window" only you must also check "full screen only" too and change resolution to be what your desire, at least it works for me and my laptop is also integrated graphic card.

I was able to increase my resolution to 1920x1080 without screen tearing or any issue, the game run fine.

Thank you. I tried DxWnd but I was not able to put the game on widescreen. Is in full screen but with limits at left and right as I´ve seen in other videos in youtube. It seems only detects my Intel graphic card, but I checked fps and usually is above 90 so is ok for me.

I would like to focus on ships mainly, as there are no other games where you can command a modern surface ship, and occassionally subs. I downloaded RA mod to get more ships and missions available. I tried to launch some random missions seems to be added by RA mod but says there is not drive platform or something like that, do you know how to fix it?

Any advice to learn the basics of surface ships specifically?

You can try Cold Water, the game is much more like arcade style and just a bit less in simulation aspect and it set in Cold war period (1960s-1980s) also in Pacific in 2000s (vs China). The original game only feature submarine but if you're interested in surface ship you can install Epic Mod or Dot mod for Cold Water, which added playable surface ships like Ticonderoga, Arleigh Burke, Knox etc. with working missile, and guns also load of new sub i.e. SSN Virginia Class etc.

Alternatively, War on the Sea which is the same concept as Cold Water but set in WW2 & focuses a lot more on surface, you can command Carrier, Battleship, Destroyer, Escort, planes, also submarine from both IJN and USN.

There are tutorials by FPSchazly:

but if that not enough i suggest read through Manual of the O.H. Perry:

Thank you for the videos. After a lot of research and trial and error finally I am now able to play the game at full screen but also 1920x1080 resolution (no more black space at left and right) thanks to another person who posted a guide to do it in DxWnd properly, as I was doing it wrong.

As for Dangerous Waters, I know it is a complex simulator, buw how complex would you say? I played flight simulator lot of years ago and still I remember very challenging planes such as Tupolev 154 or Concorde. Maybe I may be familiar with the plane as for VOR/ILS and other instruments and at least is not in russian language.

Edited: I checked this person is you, really appreciated your post helped me a lot to setup the game correctly to full screen and widescreen after trying unsuccessfully other solutions I found on google.

Just use the RA mod. It fixes most issues.
