@Urschrei, stay away from Cold Waters, it looks nice but that's it, the game is garbage, nothing but a torpedo dodging simulator and it has nothing to do with realism.
Thanks for your answer! What would you suggesst then? The only thing I can seem to find are older games like Dangerous Waters, Silent Hunter II + Destroyer Command, etc.
CMANO was mentioned, and I do agree there are certain similarities and vibes these titles share, but ultimately CMANO is a whole other ballpark.
Question is, why do you look for something modern, or rather, why is DW no option (anymore)?
I think it is still great, especially with mods - though... there is only one being maintained and that is so Russian biased by now, it drifted into a bad spot in my opinion.
There is still an active, yet small, MP community as well, they have a discord, the Dangerous Waters Data Link. Maybe that spices things up for you.
Again, whatever you do, stay away from Cold Waters... except you find it on some 5$ sale perhaps to see that all the warnings were justified. ;D
Thats great feedback, thank you man! I have already looked at some DW gameplay and it seemed pretty dull after having spent my youth with SH and similar sims.
Dangerous Waters is often referred to as a "sensor sim", and that's also what I call it.
Sure, you command every aspect of the sub, but ultimately the point of the sim is mastering the sensors, which are very in-depth and also vary from platform to platform. Driving a Kilo-class is something completely different compared to flying the P-3 Orion, and that's awesome.
If you think that "poking in the dark" for a long time, looking for some contact, identify, track and ultimately sink it is your thing, DW is for you.
Be sure to check out FPSchazly on YouTube, he is a staple of the community and has a TON of entertaining as well as educational videos about Dangerous Waters and his gameplay will give you a solid idea of what to expect if you want to go for the "realistic approach".
Perfect, again, thank you!
I'm not sure why you hate Cold Waters so much. I have watched countless hours of people streaming it and played it a little myself and there really isn't anything wrong with it, other than it being an arcade-style torpedo dodging simulator. It's a fun game when you have a limited amount of time and want to get right into some submarine combat. Obviously Dangerous Waters and the previous games are the only real submarine simulators ever made, but Cold Waters can be a ton of fun if you treat it like a Hollywood action movie and just lower your expectations while doing crazy things like leading the enemy's torpedo back into them or surfacing as aggressively as possible next to a convoy and then shooting harpoons at everyone.
