You will need to do so if you want to play cross-platform online multiplayer with Epic Games players, but I've heard that Steam players can play online through just Steam without any Epic Games account.
If you only want to play single player or local multiplayer, it's not a concern at all.
Note: In -/steamapps/common/Sackboy/GingerBread/Binaries/Win64/, I renamed the "eos_installscript.vdf" and "EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe" files. If you don't do that, Steam might install Epic Online Services when launching the game, but even if you don't, I'm not sure whether you'll need to link your Epic Games account.
I mean yeah if I want to play with someone from EGS I might see why I need that. But if I want to start the play on Steam and play it natively on Steam no one should force me to make an EGS account so I was worried.
Then its completely fine - thanks for the info :)
Worst-case scenario, you can either make an Epic Games account, or use Steam's Remote Play feature to stream the game and then play "local multiplayer" online.
The latter uses more internet and won't feel as nice for your friends (because of input lag due to streaming the game screen), but it should work, even if your friends don't own the game!
(Note: There's an exclusive costume for linking your Steam and PlayStation Network accounts, but that's optional. I don't think that there's an Epic Games-exclusive costume.)
Having cross-play active cause alot of bugs and unable to play with others.
Disabling cross-play is the only choice, since you cant use it well for now, since its about Epic that is making the problem. And Steam and Epic is not on friendly terms because of Epic themself, is being a prick againts Steam in general.
Not only Steam but Linux... Apple... His gabe newell envy is too strong.
