Friend and I can't join eachother in multiplayer

When we try to join eachother, we get a black screen for a little while, then both our characters appear in the center of our screens for a second followed by both of us being booted back to our own servers.

Server is a strong and bad word here as this game uses P2P connection by SteamUID. It connects the players straight to each other which is a decent method especially on games like this with smaller number of players, but its also the most wonky and unstable method as one players connection issues can lag the game for all players, in this case it looks like something ive seen some time ago here and what helped was checking if all the players have allowed this game to be a firewall exception. If you use the defualt windows firewall it should even ask you when you started the game the first time if it should create and exception for this game. If it did not pop out for any of you the problem might be that someone has it set to automatically decline exceptions.

I am having the same issue. Friend will invite me in game and when i accept the invitation the game opens up with me alone at HQ. what is trying to be accomplished is me (invitation accepted), my friend (host), and my brother (invited through remote play). the remote play works perfectly fine. its the in game invite that is buggy.

1. Its literally not the same issue.
2. By game opens up you mean you had the game turned off when you accepted the invite? If yes, than start the game first and after that accept the invite. In some games it works when the games are turned off, but in most cases it actually does not as games especially not being made by steam have some issues with you accepting an invite while the game is not running.

I'm using Norton but I gave the game exceptions through the windows default firewall. I figured it was something with my networking side but wasn't sure what or how to fix it through the Norton app. I've tried uninstalling Norton too and deactivating windows firewall completely and it still didn't work

Same here. Doesn't let us join on the demo or the paid version. just get black screen, briefly flashes up the join screen then just goes into single player.

Sounds the same to me... This is what happened.
1. My friend would send me an invite when I WAS IN GAME, and I was STILL brought to my HQ.... ALONE.
2. My friend would send me an invite when I WAS OUT OF GAME, and I was STILL brought to my HQ... ALONE.
When I invited my friend he didn't have any issues joining my game. When he invited me, which he did it THE SAME EXACT WAY I had invited him. We tested out the issue multiple times and each time he invited me, whether I was IN THE GAME OR NOT, I was still brought to my HQ ALONE. I have many other multiplayer games and I have no connecting issues. My theory is that there is a code or program pathway that is causing the issue. Also it is NOT my computer NOR my computer's program NOR my internet NOR my firewall NOR my VPN. Every game has "bugs" in them, some are not noticeable while others are. Also from other comments it sounds like other players are having THE SAME ISSUE, so clearly its not just me.

same problem here, with windows 11 maybe is the problem? i tried to disable firewall but nothing happened

Im having the same issue
I do the follow but not work:
1.not the "Game First" in anyone
2.the firewall
3.We used to be able to connect and it work all of day

But I find a bug:
1.I invite my girl and when she getting a black screen, I go into the tutorial
then she can see the dialog(takeout the fish..)
2.than I out of tutorial and change the state to open, invite again
3.amazing, she can add to her room but too lag to cannot move
4.but now in her side, i in lag and she cannot do anything, just move

Hey I've tried a short list of things that could potentially be the problem. Not sure which one fixed it but y'll can give it a try. I'll list them in order of what I think solved it.

1)Port forwarding on your firewall on your computer AND your router
2)Deleted a few applications that I don't use regularly, some may have been controlling games/security of my computer
3)Firewall settings (allowing application)
4)Reinstalling the game
