Absolutely YUP !
You need at least 6 alts to earn anything (gold, mats, engravings...) necessary for your main in end game.
✪ eXacT Sep 14, 2023 @ 5:31am
No, with all the events and bonus mats the game provides you with, you can play 1 character to end game. It is gonna take a bit more time to get there of course but you DO NOT have to play 6 chars.
Colonel Sanders Sep 14, 2023 @ 5:33am
Before some others come in:

No it doesnt 100% require alts.. some people will tell you its wrong.. and it is!
But you need to be okay with progressing like a snail only being able to play 30 min to 1 hour per day or something like that and then being constantly timegated. unless u play alts.
(playtime i used excludes chasing "useless" horizontal content of course)

Doesnt sound like a satisfying mmorpg experience to me, but if it does to you, then go ahead
p00se2 Sep 14, 2023 @ 5:41am
people paint it like you need 6 alts and millions of gold to have fun and enjoy game
and they feel forced to do what others say is needed and required because they cant think for themselves ?

short answer: no
you dont need an army of alts

more play = more progress
more time = more play
more alts = more play
more play = more gold

my friend plays exclusively 1 character and he is item level 1583, can easily do any endgame content.
Colonel Sanders Sep 14, 2023 @ 5:47am
Here is the thing. there are multiple reasons why people feel like this game requires an army of alts.
1. "slow progress without alts to feed your mains" this is the one you all respond to.
2. "you dont have much to do in this game when u play 1 char since everything is timegated, like in a mobile game i play when im having a pause from work.. or when im waiting at the doctor" This is the one you all ignore.

No but they help

First you can always tell how little someone knows about the game if they say you need 5 alts to farm gold for your main.
Alts are for farming silver over gold, gold if a free bonus the alts will provide seeing how you can run nerfed content that usually takes around 10-20 mins netting you extra gold, they also give you something to play once you do everything for the week on your main

As of now it cost no gold for honing taps up to 1490, you can hon to 1490 100% free as long as you are using farmed mats and not buying them

Every like 6 months they also do powerpass and mokoko events.
They give you 1-4 powerpasses each year that allows a you to skip all of the story content up to T3, you can then uses these character with the mokoko events.
The mokoko events more or less gives you 90% of the mats you need to hon to 1490, it also gives you mats and boost your honing rates until 1540, and gives you more mats up till 1560 or 1580. You also get full 5x3 engravings and level 7 gems with 4 level 8s later on.

If you started playing 3 or 4 months ago you would have 3 1490s/1540s that cost nearly no gold/mats/time
And if you already had a high level main as of now you would be given a character that you could easily push to 1540 that has 5x3 and free gems, on top of being given a 2nd one once Soul Eater releases.

People who push 5 alts to endgame let me know when those alts start returning the money you spent on honing them without the hyperexpress mats and extra %.
Alts do help, but honing an alt to 1540 is on average ~80k gold. That alt won't make you that gold back immediately.

The best option is to make an alt on a new hyperexpress since it's basically free. And jump start for new and returning players spoon feed you 2 hyper passes already.

Number 2 on this post is the main one which is both a positive and negative to some, for me it would be the negative... i dont really care much about the horizontal content but playing 1 char gives you a world of time to go do all the side stuff if you like doing collectables / world exploration and its a nice fit for starting out as it gives you time to go get skill points, do islands get some souls etc

2-3 chars is a good fit for a casual player, work on the main first as pushing a 2nd char is going to take away mats / resources from your main, there is no feeding to a main only starving it!

play alts sensibly... push to a place that is not costing gold or you are only using gold that you can spare... allow them to accumulate their own mats doing dailies on rested , chaos on rested etc. when you have almost enough bound mats to push to the next milestone / raid level and have gold to spare, then push!

most importantly play them for fun, if you dont enjoy them and they are just a means to an end for mats / gold then replace them!

If you are using an alt for an alt and not another main you do not buy boxes from raids once you have your armor.

going from 1490 to 1540 use to cost about 80k to 120k, now it is much cheaper if you have the mokoko event buff and or on top of the stronghold buffs, and you are using honing books that you get for free every event.

As of now
Brel G1-G2 HM gives 5500G, G3 NM gives 1500G = 7000G, G4 gives 2500G every 2 week so 1250G a week = 8250G

Kayangel NM gives 4500G

Clown gives like 5000G or something

Thats 17,750G a week for a single 1540. Even if it cost you 80k to go from 1490 to 1540, it only takes 5 weeks to make that 80k back, that is not counting the Gems and tradeable mats from doing your fully rested Chaos and Guardian dailies on top of Cubes... the the gear you might get that is worth gold.

In that 5 weeks it will also net you around 3.5m silver from unas alone not counting Chaos and Cubes

But before you take a stance, always sprinkle some skepticism on any advice you get here. You might want to check the playtime of the person responding: Are they the equivalent of a gourmet pizza chef with 4000 hours of pizza-making, or are they just biting into their first slice?

The bite-sized answer:

The whole pizza pie explanation:
For those who've already baked their way to the endgame (with tons of hours and maybe a sprinkle of real cash), things are saucier. They can afford to chill a bit, having amassed resources over time. Depending on their goals, they can roll with anywhere from 1 to 6 characters. But if you're fresh dough, just starting out, or if you're looking to wring every last drop of efficiency from the game, then that bite-sized answer up there? That's the recipe you'll want to follow.

However, here's a cheesy twist: some seasoned min/maxers, rolling deep with 10+ characters, will saunter into this forum and, with a straight face, tell newbies they only need one character. The irony, right? But that's the Lost Ark community for you, always keeping you guessing like the mystery ingredient in a secret sauce.

actually the opposite, those that baked their way to end game, burnt their first few pies believing the old lie of you need 6 alts asap or you cant play, you must do 18x of everything or you cant keep up... only to burn out.

learn from our mistakes! a lad i play with did the 1-2 char thing (eventually 3) from start of LA, He did it right from the off for someone wanting to play more casual, if you want this to be your only game and wanna go full on, 6 chars it is! but just remember every char you make will put you two steps back, not one step forward!
Arka Sep 14, 2023 @ 8:50am
Sighs since i'm being dissed quite badly here... I'll add some explanation to what I said.

Lost Ark is a game that's "alts friendly" meaning if you want to create some it will always be a plus for you.

After that, it all depend on : what kind of player you are. how much time you have to play. are you a casual player, HC player or simply loving the game player.

1) Casual players are ppl who can only spend 1 or 2h per day (a fews hours per week).
They don't have time to lvl up and play several alts so having only one is enough for them.
The bad side is the fact they can finish everything in mere hours and don't have much to do after except the islands, mini-games, collection contents.

2) HC players will need the alts for the help/boost they can be for the main char.
To be an advantage it should not be costly in lvlg and honing for that you'll need to wait for the free pass, express events... and to not push to max ilvl.
But you can choose to be an HC player with only 1 char too, you'll just up slowly (if you didnt use a express event+pass) and clear contents/raid/dailies really quickly and end up with a lot of free time for others games.

3) Loving The Game players (as myself with tons of hours of playing for several months..) are usually here from the start for the lore, design, contents, characters + gameplay and ofc the end-game...
They simply like all those aspects of LA therefore creating lots of alts for THE fun (and my army of alts and their tons of mats really helped to up my main for endgame).

PS: Guys, for your own good stop being some as**oles dissing ppl for nuts supposing they are some geeks playing 10h/day or some casual not knowing the game at all.
