1. Special - it uses overland materials
2. Farm - it uses materials gathered from your farm
If you researched it, did you pick the right category that has the material? Farming insufficient special(solar) mats or stronghold not producing any can be a factor in not being able to craft.
Btw, you didn't specify your tier/ilvl. If you're T3, but bellow 1415, you need to farm fish and game solar mats from Punika. 1415+. you need to go to south Vern. For T4, all resource nodes from north Kurzan yield the abidos mat, needed for the abidos fusion mat.
I forgot to mention, that if you do raids, you earn tokens that you can exchange at the solo merchant for orehas.
1. In Lost Ark if you hover over your gold you'll see the amount of regular gold (tradable gold used to craft tradable fusions or interact with market and action house) and the amount of bound gold (used for upgrading or craft your gear and do vertical progression systems).
2. On your stronghold you can craft fusions mats on the special tab (regular tradable fusions that you can craft after doing trade skills on the open world) or on the farm tab (bound fusions that come in boxes and that you can craft using your life energy to gather mats on your stronghold using the farm there). The first ones uses only regular gold to craft, the second one bound gold (or normal gold too).
3. To get regular gold you need to do for example Adventure Island that gives gold or some raid that you feel comfortable doing solo in group using party finder. After you get some amount of normal gold you'll be able to sell materials and other items using the market, and use that gold to craft your fusions.
4. Also, as someone said before, there are some weekly bound fusion mats available to purchase on the solo raid vendor in major cities.
Hope this helped, cheers.
