As far as gains, everything is timegated so the idea of grinding and getting ahead is a facade. You can if u go all out and find work around by bussing and making cheap alts. But it turns into a weird vicious cycle for minimal rng gains. The game is extremely predatory and creates a 3 way divide of whales that get insulted, f2p players who brag about getting ahead while beating the predatory system and insulting others who didn't, and the people who had a bad time and quit.
The paywall i would say is based on your rng luck. Cause since progress is timegated, no matter how well you do, you have to do the same boss once a week for months to get the full gearset you need to level up and progress. Now if you have bad luck leveling up the gearset with the limited gold earnings you can make before your gold earnings are locked out for the week. Then people feel the need to either swipe, or grind excessively through work around means that have minimal gains compared to just waiting til next week in hopes of having better rng for lvling your items up. But the amount of bad luck could be so extreme where someone could get lucky and 1 tap lets say their weapon quality to 95% while another could spend a thousand dollars and still be stuck under 85% quality.
There's a pity system for leveling items that gets pretty rough closer to end game, but the cost and chances keep changing based on how old the content is so anything u do has very little meaning as it becomes worth less over time. The difference in someone getting a lucky 1 tap ot hitting a full pity, can be from as low as 1600 gold for that 1 item level, or weeks worth of grind depending on if it's your weapon, and what item level you are going for on it. Which is why people spend more time doing math on "what's worth doing" instead of having fun playing the game. Cause the game encourages you to get mentally locked into a state of constantly thinking about gains instead of just playing the game for fun due to the uh... wide range of disparity?
I was addicted to the game and even though i quit months ago to finally taste freedom and get outside of the mental gymnastics box and the vicious cycle... I still wanna play due to that lingering addiction and at it's core the gameplay and character control is way more fun that any other top down game i've tried. What actually keeps me from reinstalling is how mean and toxic the community has been to me. constantly turning anything i say and any original thought into a way to insult or attack me. I did fine while i was playing, but anything i did to try and encourage positive change in the game or attempts to be understanding towards new players were met with hostility from the current player base and elitist tryhards. Which is primarily all that's left playing due to the nature of the game and everyone else who isn't brainwashed quit.
In short, everythings worth buying if money is not an issue for u in real life and you have zero self respect while not minding supporting a game ran by extremely predatory people.
But also no, nothing is worth it no matter how much you spend. You won't get much and it won't actually help u progress. Cause you still need to clear the raid to get the items to craft the newest gearsets to level.
The game is run by whales so forget about playing end-game content, you can still enjoy the open world content but you are basically limiting yourself to only playing 20% of the game.
I would say if Lost Ark appeals to you, the leveling experience is okay, the combat is good but you can forget about doing any kind of end-game content, the community doesn't accept normal people.
to obtain usable gold you gotta be involved in lobby simulator+toxic community+no1 willing to take newbies+gatekeeping+jail+what not :)
I could make a new account and be doing almost all end game content in just a few weeks except the latest end game raid that just came out 'Aegir' that one will take a bit longer to get there but with current mokoko event you don't wanna get to Aegir because you want to make use of the mokoko event leaf that any new player gets, when you get to 1660 ilvl aka Aegir ilvl then you lose the mokoko leaf which is why you want to avoid hitting 1660 ilvl to make best use of mokoko leaf to get your account ready for later on. Mokoko leaf basically gets you accepted into any group looking for a mokoko to join their party.
Plus you now have solo raids to learn a lot of the boss fights in the game.
This game feels more like a souls like game in terms of raids/bossing. gl hf
Comparing this to elden ring or poe 2 LMFAO!
Just Butt-hole-hair sniff(just like the majority in Reddit and Discord Lost ark) the boss in lost ark and win! Easy! Long as you're not the Gacha aggroed or stack pooped player!
