At a point the purple gear becomes "BROKEN" gear where its NO LONGER wearable and can ONLY be used for tripods and all gear drops from this point will ALWAYS be broken gear (purple, gold & red). The next set of gear after the blue/purple gear is the gear that is crafted from Argo's blood and Oreha's Hard Materials.
Go from purple to orea orange weapon and argos orange armor.
You can dismantle orea hard and argos special upgrade items into mats for honing when you have finished upgrading from purple with them.
Then you have valtan leg set and after that it changes to relic in hard mode and vykas.
Its still tier 3 but with better stats and set bonus and can hone to higher ilvl.
Tier 1
Blue 302
Purple 302 (340 Abyss Dungeon Materials)
Gold 302 (460 Abyss Dungeon Materials)
Tier 2
Blue 802
Purple 802 (840 Abyss Dungeon Materials)
Gold 802 (960 Abyss Dungeon Materials)
Tier 3
Blue 1302
Purple 1302 (~1325 Chaos Dungeons & 1340 Abyss Dungeon Materials)
Legendary 1340's (Cannot get until 1370/1415) (Goes up to +20)
-Chosen: Uses Oreha's Well Hard Materials
-Argos Sets: Uses Argo's Blood Materials
-Legion Sets: Uses Normal Mode Legion Commander materials (Requires 1415)
Relic 1340's (Cannot get until 1445) (Goes up to +25)
-Legion Sets: Uses Relic Legion Commander Materials
Relic 1390's (Cannot get until 1490) (Goes up to +25)
-Legion Sets: Uses Bralshaza Normal Materials
Artifact 1390's (Cannot get until 1540) (Goes up to +30)
-Legion Sets: Uses Bralshaza HARD Materials.
But basically it's level the 1302 to 1370 or 1415 then select one of those 3, level that to 1445 and then follow the more linear path?
Both Blue and purple 1302 gear + value remains the same when gear transfering
When transfering from purple 1302 to the legendary 1340 gear at 1370, it gives +6 to the gear (which sets the gear to 1370) and you start from there.
Legendary 1340 and Relic 1340 maintains the same + value when gear transfering.
When upgrading from the Relic 1340 gear to the Relic 1390 gear (at 1490) the + value again is reset to a lower + value depending on your current value.
Always use the gear transfer option when you upgrade to the next set at the honing npc.
If you overhone t1/2 before transferring you get losses.
T3 legendarys and relics are still linear, its just forks with different sets with different set bonus in parallel. You can mix different sets to get many 2 pieces bonus or go for full set bonus. It mostly depends on how fast you go through the ascension.
You can skip lots of transfers along the way.
No risk of this because
1) the story quest told me to move on at the specific level and
2) the honing started to cost gold
Also even if I overhoned those materials were useless anyway as soon as I moved to the next tier. I put hundreds on the market and tossed hundreds more that was bound. The way people are talking about t3 it would seem the t3 materials actually runs out.
So, what's the optimal path then?
Prior to the growth support, a free hone was a free hone. Now since you get +2's, its not as important to gear transfer a T1 piece to T2 (unless its +16 which is a waste on its own).
However starting when upgrading from T2 to T3, you WANT to use gear transfer and transfer your old gear into the new one for that extra +. A free hone is a free hone and the gear will start out at 1305 (+1) instead of 1302 (+0).
The only transfers you can skip:
Tier 1:
Gear Transferring the Blue gear into the Purple OR Yellow Gear. Neither is required (you only get better stats) and the drops come from the abyss dungeons.
Tier 2:
Gear Transferring the old Tier 1 Gear into the Blue Tier 2 Sets. Since the transfer only gives a +1 but the hones go up by even's now due to support, you do not have to anymore.
Gear Transferring the Blue gear into the Purple OR Yellow Gear. Neither is required (you only get better stats) and the drops come from the abyss dungeons.
Tier 3
Gear Transferring the Blue gear into either the Purple Chaos Dungeon set or Purple Oreha's Set. Both are not required to get to +15 (1370) but grant more stats.
Every other transfer is recommended.
-Gear Transfer Tier 2 1100 into the Tier 3 Blue 1302 Gear for a free +1
-Gear Transfer +15 Tier 3 1302 Gear into the Legendary 1340 Sets for a free +6
-Gear Transfer The legendary 1340 gear sets into the relic sets to retain your current honing value.
Now with all the carrys and busses and alt groups you need less gear to go get the next gear than in early progression.
Also since gear costs gold where do I get gold? I only know of abyssal dungeons and they are weekly. Is this where you have to pay to continue?
Daily skills sell materials or use the materials to craft stuff that can sell nicely in market
Adventure Island that reward gold it's not every day tho.
The rest is from raids/dungeons like oreha hard/normal, Argos, all legion raids etc
Selling engraving books that you don't need, can sell gems but i'd hang to the gems since u need them, sell legendary engravings if you get one to drop.
Collecting masterpieces can give gold in some of the unlocks.
Selling honing mats if you don't need, honor shard pouches also sell for a very nice ammount.
There's so many more ways but yeah. I'm sure I missed something but yeah minimal stuff like turning silver into gold which is basically buying chaos shards and sell in market for gold. But silver is important for a lot of things and hard to farm it so care if you do this.
Most of my gold comes from legion raids/argos the rest is from random drops and sometimes ppl doing high bids for good legendary engraving books or material box etc.
Do chaos gate/secret maps, field bosses, cubes, boss rushes, challenge dungeons etc for chances at dropping auctioned loot and stuff that can give a lot of gold sometimes.
You are getting at a point in the game where you will start dropping legendary engraving books worth up to 10k-15k gold each. sell those if you get lucky.
If its auctioned loot, you get your gold cut out of it.
Learn the most popular engravings for each classes and look up for them among all the trash. Don't dismantle an holygrail item worth crazy amount without looking lol. Legendary accessories just took a drop since the honing buffs and are worth much less now tho.
Make alts when you get free powerpasses to have more daily stuff to do if you need it.
Level up gathering profession and sell stuff directly or after crafting it into battle items.
