Hit Master Engraving question

it says front and back attacks don't apply but lets say my attack, in the descript it says back attack, but if I instead use it as a side attack, will it still give bonus damage?

I was thinking of putting it on my scrapper which has a lot of back attacks but some boss fights is way WAY too hard to position it right. I'm joking about the scrapper one but for example, since its attack says BACK ATTACk, will hit master still work if hit on side of enemy?

If it says "back attack" or "front attack" in the description of the skill, then it does not apply.
doesn't matter if you are using the skill while attacking your enemy from the side.

this is why the engraving is pretty good on gunslinger as the rifle skills don't have any of the attack types while tripods of the shotgun skills allow you to modify the skills in such a way that they are no longer back / front attacks.
