Heard the same sort of complaints about the 'stealth' quest where you had to sneak around the patrolling guards and the whole thing failed if were seen. Failed a couple of times, then slowed down to watch the pattern and it was much easier.
So, I suspect there is something that has been overlooked in the execution of this quest. Should be fun to figure out and a nice change from the usual 'Hi, now DIE' sort of thing.
Good Luck!
Overall I think it was awesome, very cool and unique. Sort of reminded me of the old school Silent Hill games and it was a cool change of pace. However when I was doing it I failed a good half-dozen times and boy was I getting frustrated about it. The guy walks sooo slow and the first 10 minutes are very boring with unskippable cutscenes. When I say he's slow, I really mean he is slow. Like cmon man, do you really need to take 3 full seconds to open a door carefully while being chased by terrifying monsters?
It was pretty cool that you couldn't just tank through it or come back as a high ilevel, and man oh man it's so brutal how you only get 6 oils and are rarely given refills when you actually need them. The mission was genuinely pretty scary and stressful the whole way through. Honestly this may be one of the hardest pieces of content I've encountered in the whole game, granted I'm pre-t3, but it was not a cakewalk by any means.
I have very mixed feelings about the ending too
So I spent probably a good 2 hours attempting this nightmare. I died over and over and over again. I finally BARELY get to the very end of the mission and you know what happens?
YOU DIE. The investigator dies at the end anyways. While I'm not sure I saw that coming, it kind of cheapened the whole thing due to everything I did, all the near-death encounters I narrowly escaped from, were completely pointless.
Overall pretty cool, but I sure am glad that I'm done with it lol
It could be kinda fun (still scary) if you'd just have to evade the enemies instead of trying to hit them with a light that "deals massive damage" - hint: no, it doesn't.
